We believe audiences will embrace Raju Weds Rambai, a story rooted in our native culture – Saailu Kaampati

Akhil and Tejaswini star in Raju Weds Rambai, produced by ETV Win Originals, presented by Dr. Nageshwar Rao Pujari under Dolamukhi Subaltern Films & Monsoons Tales, and directed by Saailu Kaampati. The film releases in theatres on November 21, through Vamsi Nandipati Entertainments & Bunny Vas Works.

– Hailing from Warangal, Sailu had a deep passion for cinema since childhood. Films like 16 Teens and Sampangi inspired him to closely follow directors, technicians, and their work. A friend working in Nagarjuna’s Greek Veerudu encouraged his filmmaking interest.

– After completing B.Tech and trying for jobs, his heart stayed with cinema. He began writing scripts, initially commercial ones but soon realised he wanted to tell rooted, native stories that carried the “soul” of his people. He worked in the direction departments of Venu Udugula and Srikanth Addala, eventually narrating Raju Weds Rambai to Venu Udugula, who loved it and asked him to shoot a demo. That led to this film being greenlit, with ETV Win later joining the project.

– The story is not exactly about honour killing, but falls in a similar emotional zone. Raju imagines marrying his love Rambai and keeps writing “Raju Weds Rambai” everywhere. What happens to the lovers is something audiences will discover in theatres. This incident is based on a real event Sailu heard about as a child. The affected family allowed the film to be made but requested anonymity. The original incident happened in 2004.

– The hero, Akhil, is also from Warangal. His profile fit the character perfectly. Finding the right actress for Rambai took longer. For the heroine’s father’s role, Chaitanya Jonnalagadda was selected. Though he had just returned from the U.S. and looked very polished, Sailu sensed a “psychological” shade in him. After a quick test scene, he fit the role of a disabled father and performed it convincingly after workshops.

– The shoot began last year, but heavy rains and floods submerged the village they were filming in. Since continuity required the same locations, they had to wait. Villagers initially resisted resuming the shoot due to the bad omen of floods, but after months of patience and convincing, filming continued.

– Sailu admits he didn’t initially understand how a screenplay should be structured. Venu Udugula guided him with suggestions and helped refine the script. During production as well, he gave Saailu the freedom to make the film in his own voice.

– Music by Suresh Bobbili stands out as a major asset. The team is happy with the final output and confident in the film’s rooted storytelling. Venu Udugula, Bunny Vas, and Vamsi Nandipati have all appreciated the result. Sailu added that work on his next project is already underway and will be announced soon.

అఖిల్, తేజస్విని జంటగా నటిస్తున్న సినిమా “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి”. ఈ చిత్రాన్ని ఈటీవీ విన్ ఒరిజినల్స్ ప్రొడక్షన్ ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు తీసుకొస్తోంది. “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి” చిత్రాన్ని డా.నాగేశ్వరరావు పూజారి సమర్పణలో డోలాముఖి సుబల్టర్న్ ఫిలింస్, మాన్ సూన్స్ టేల్స్ బ్యానర్స్ పై వేణు ఊడుగుల, రాహుల్ మోపిదేవి నిర్మిస్తున్నారు. సాయిలు కంపాటి దర్శకత్వం వహిస్తున్నారు. నవంబర్ 21న “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి” సినిమాను వంశీ నందిపాటి ఎంటర్ టైన్ మెంట్స్, బన్నీ వాస్ వర్క్స్ బ్యానర్స్ పై వంశీ నందిపాటి, బన్నీ వాస్ గ్రాండ్ థియేట్రికల్ రిలీజ్ కు తీసుకొస్తున్నారు. ఈ రోజు జరిగిన ఇంటర్వ్యూలో సినిమా హైలైట్స్ తెలిపారు డైరెక్టర్ సాయిలు కంపాటి.

– మాది వరంగల్ జిల్లా. చిన్నప్పటి నుంచే సినిమాల మీద ఆసక్తి ఉండేది. అప్పుడు 16 టీన్స్, సంపంగి ఇలాంటి మూవీస్ చూసి సినిమాల పట్ల ఆకర్షితుడిని అయ్యాను. సినిమా డైరెక్టర్ ఎవరు, టెక్నీషియన్స్ ఎవరు, వాళ్లు గతంలో ఏ సినిమాలకు వర్క్ చేశారు. ఇలా ప్రతి విషయం గమనించి గుర్తుపెట్టుకునేవాడిని. మా ఊరికి చెందిన స్నేహితుడు ఒకరు అప్పటికే ఇండస్ట్రీకి వచ్చారు. ఆయన నాగార్జున గ్రీకువీరుడు సినిమాకు డైరెక్షన్ డిపార్ట్ మెంట్ లో వర్క్ చేసేవారు. సినిమాల పట్ల నా ఆసక్తిని గమనించి ఎంకరేజ్ చేశారు.

– బీటెక్ పూర్తి చేసిన తర్వాత ఉద్యోగాల ప్రయత్నాలు చేసినా, నా మనసంతా సినిమాల వైపే ఉండేది. కొన్ని స్క్రిప్ట్ర్ రెడీ చేసుకోవడం మొదలుపెట్టా. మొదట్లో కమర్షియల్ స్క్రిప్ట్స్ గురించి ఆలోచించినా, ఆ తర్వాత మనదైన నేటివిటీ, మన ఆత్మ ఆ మూవీలో కనిపించాలి అనిపించింది. ఆ తరహా స్క్రిప్ట్స్ రాయడం ప్రారంభించా. డైరెక్టర్స్ వేణు ఊడుగుల, శ్రీకాంత్ అడ్డాల గారి దగ్గర డైరెక్షన్ డిపార్ట్ మెంట్ లో వర్క్ చేశా. ఒకరోజు వేణు ఊడుగుల అన్నకు “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి” కథ చెప్పాను. ఆయనకు బాగా నచ్చింది. ఆ తర్వాత ఒక డెమో షూట్ చేసుకుని రమ్మన్నారు. అది చేశాక. సినిమా అవకాశం ఇచ్చారు. ఆ తర్వాత ఈటీవీ విన్ వాళ్లు కూడా మా ప్రాజెక్ట్ లో జాయిన్ అయ్యారు.

– ఇది పరువు హత్యకు సంబంధించిన కథ కాదు. కానీ అలాంటిదే. రాజు తన ప్రేయసి రాంబాయిని పెళ్లి చేసుకున్నట్లే ఊహించుకుని రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి అని రాస్తుంటాడు. ఈ కథలో ప్రేమికులకు ఏం జరిగింది అనేది మాత్రం తెరపైనే చూడాలి. నేను చిన్నప్పుడు ఈ ఘటన గురించి విన్నాను. అప్పట్లో మా దగ్గర సొసైటీలో ఎవరికైనా ఏదైనా గొడవ జరిగితే అన్నలు వచ్చి కొట్టి, బెదిరించి ఆ ఇష్యూను సెటిల్ చేసేవాళ్లు. ఈ కథలో బాధిత కుటుంబం వాళ్లను కలిసి ఇలా సినిమా చేస్తున్నానని అడిగితే, సినిమా చేయి గానీ మా పేర్లు, ఫొటోస్ బయటకు రాకుండా చూడమని కోరారు. 2004లో ఈ ఘటన జరిగింది.

– హీరో అఖిల్ మా వరంగల్ జిల్లా అతనే. ఒక స్నేహితుడి ద్వారా అతని ప్రొఫైల్ చూశాను. రాజు క్యారెక్టర్ కు కావాల్సిన ఈజ్ అఖిల్ లో కనిపించింది. రాంబాయి క్యారెక్టర్ కోసం మాత్రం హీరోయిన్స్ చాలా వెతకాల్సివచ్చింది. హీరోయిన్ ఫాదర్ రోల్ కోసం చైతన్య జొన్నలగడ్డను తీసుకున్నాం. ఆయన మా ఆఫీస్ కు వచ్చినప్పుడు యూఎస్ నుంచి తిరిగివచ్చారు. స్టైల్ గా ఉన్నా, ఆయనలో ఒక సైక్ లుక్ కనిపించింది. హీరోయిన్ తండ్రిది దివ్యాంగుడి పాత్ర. చైతన్యతో అప్పటికప్పుడు ఒక చిన్న శాంపిల్ సీన్ చేయించాం. బాగా చేశాడు. తీసుకున్నాం. కొన్ని వర్క్స్ షాప్స్ తర్వాత ఆ క్యారెక్టర్ ను పర్పెక్ట్ గా చేశాడు.

– ఈ సినిమా షూటింగ్ గతేడాది ప్రారంభించాం. సగం షూటింగ్ జరిగిన తర్వాత వర్షాలు, వరదలు వచ్చి ఆ ఊరు మునిగిపోయింది. కంటిన్యుటి కోసం అదే ఊరిలో షూటింగ్ చేయాలి కాబట్టి వేచి చూశాం. అలా షూటింగ్ ఆలస్యమైంది. ఇలా వర్షాలు, వరదలు రావడాన్ని చెడుగా భావించి, ఊరిలో షూటింగ్ వద్దు అని గ్రామస్తులు అన్నారు. వరద ప్రభావం పూర్తి తగ్గేవరకు ఆగి ఊరి వాళ్లను బతిమాలి మళ్లీ షూటింగ్ చేశాం.

– సినిమా స్క్రిప్ట్ ఇలా ఉండాలనే అవగాహన నాకు లేదు. తెలిసినవి అన్నీ రాశాను. అవన్నీ తెరపైకి తీసుకురాలేం. అప్పుడు వేణు ఊడుగుల అన్న స్క్రిప్ట్ ఎలా ఉండాలో చెప్పి తెలియజేశారు. స్క్రిప్ట్ లో ఏమేం ఉండాలో కొన్ని సజెషన్స్ ఇచ్చారు. అలా ఆయన సపోర్ట్ లభించింది. సినిమా షూటింగ్ టైమ్ లో కూడా నువ్వు నమ్మింది సినిమాగా చేయి అనే ఫ్రీడమ్ ఇచ్చారు.

– సురేష్ బొబ్బిలి సంగీతం సినిమాకు మంచి మ్యూజిక్ ఇచ్చారు. ఆయన సంగీతం మా సినిమాకు ఆకర్షణగా నిలుస్తుంది. నాకు మన రూటెడ్ కథలు ఇష్టం. సినిమా చూశాక అందరం హ్యాపీగా ఉన్నాం. మా కంటెంట్ మీద మాకు నమ్మకం ఉంది. వేణు అన్న, బన్నీ వాస్, వంశీ నందిపాటి కూడా మూవీ ఔట్ పుట్ చూసి సంతోషించారు. మూవీ బాగా వచ్చేందుకు మా టీమ్ బాగా సపోర్ట్ చేశారు.  నా తదుపరి సినిమాకు సన్నాహాలు జరుగుతున్నాయి, త్వరలోనే ఆ ప్రాజెక్ట్ అనౌన్స్ చేస్తాను.
