Santhana Prapthirasthu with its perfect blend of entertainment, emotion, and a strong message – Vikranth
Young actor Vikranth is all set to entertain audiences with his upcoming film Santhana Prapthirasthu, co-starring Chandini Chowdary as the female lead. The movie is being produced by Madhura Sreedhar Reddy and Nirvi Hariprasad Reddy under the banners of Madhura Entertainment and Nirvi Arts, with Sanjeev Reddy directing it. The film is scheduled for a grand theatrical release on the 14th of this month. In a recent interview, Vikranth shared some key highlights about the movie.
“Our hometown is Vijayawada. I’ve loved movies since childhood. Whenever elders went to watch a film, I used to tag along. Later, I completed my studies and pursued a career in software. I even worked in the U.S., where I used to watch even more movies than I did here. During the COVID period, I realized that if I kept waiting for the right time, life would just pass by. So, I returned to India, thinking the pandemic would last only three months – but it stretched into two years. My family started pressuring me about my career. Amid all that, I did a movie called Spark, which turned out to be a bitter experience for me. After that, I took a short break and honed my acting skills through theatre.
“One day, I got an opportunity to meet Sridhar Garu. Later, he sent me the script for Santhana Prapthirasthu. The story revolves around a hero who suffers from low sperm count. Initially, I was unsure if such a subject would connect with Telugu audiences. But after reading the entire script, I realized it was written very tastefully – without crossing any lines or including any vulgarity. It’s a story that people of all age groups can comfortably watch. That gave me confidence that it would appeal to everyone. Big stars don’t usually attempt such subjects because their image restricts them, but newcomers like us should take these kinds of creative risks.”
“After COVID, audiences have become more open to world cinema. They now appreciate new genres and fresh storytelling. For a new actor like me, doing routine commercial films won’t work. I wanted to do something different yet relatable. Santhana Prapthirasthu addresses the sensitive issue of infertility, blending it with entertainment. About 75% of the film is filled with humor and fun, while the final part delivers an emotional and meaningful message that audiences will take home.”
“Director Sanjeev Garu has been working on this story since 2017. He had everything perfectly planned – not a single scene was changed. I play Chaitanya, a software engineer. Every software employee will relate to this character. For the role, I gained about six kilos and transformed myself into a typical IT professional. Infertility has become a growing concern among modern couples. A survey says three out of every ten couples face this issue. Those people will strongly connect with this movie. We haven’t mocked or ridiculed anyone dealing with infertility – we’ve designed the entertainment around the theme in a sensitive way. So, no one will feel offended. In fact, people suffering from infertility will walk out with a sense of hope after watching the film.”
“Chandini, who is known for her strong performances, is one of the biggest attractions of our film. We both attended several workshops together before shooting. After my role, Chandini and Vennela Kishore’s characters are the most crucial ones. Tharun Bhascker, one of my favorite directors, plays Jack Reddy in the movie. Acting alongside him was an unforgettable experience. Murali Dhar Goud plays the heroine’s father, who wants her to marry a government employee, but Chandini’s character loves me instead. We face a 100-day challenge related to pregnancy. There’s a survey that says earlier, couples used to share pregnancy news within three months, but now that time has extended to 19 months. Due to stress, busy lifestyles, financial pressures, and job-related strain, people are either delaying parenthood or facing difficulties conceiving.”
“Although the shooting of our film was completed quickly, the post-production took time. Since composer Sunil Kashyap was busy with other projects, Ajay Arasada handled the background score – and he did a fantastic job. He also composed the song ‘Telusa Nee Kosame,’ which has been receiving great response. The songs from our movie are getting a very positive reception. We’ve even received strong OTT offers, which shows the confidence platforms have in our film.”
“All the songs and comedy in the movie are organically woven into the story – nothing feels forced. Even the censor board appreciated our work and granted us a U/A certificate, which shows how sensitively director Sanjeev dealt with the subject. We’ve already screened a few premieres, and the audience response has been heartwarming. Many said they hadn’t seen such a wholesome family entertainer in recent times, which made me really happy.”
“After this movie, I’ll again be working with Sreedhar Garu and Sanjeev Reddy on a film titled Sarpanch, set in a rural backdrop. It will also deal with certain social issues, but like Santhana Prapthirasthu, it will be a full-fledged entertainer. I’m also developing another socio-fantasy project titled Mrityunjaya Markandeya.”

– మా స్వస్థలం విజయవాడ. చిన్నప్పటి నుంచి సినిమాలంటే ఇష్టం ఉండేది. పెద్దవాళ్లు ఎవరైనా సినిమాకు వెళ్తుంటే వాళ్లతో పాటు వెళ్లేవాడిని. చదువుకుని సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ కెరీర్ లోకి వచ్చాను. యూఎస్ వెళ్లి జాబ్ చేశా. అమెరికాలో ఇక్కడి కంటే ఎక్కువ సినిమాలు చూసేవాడిని. కోవిడ్ టైమ్ లో ఇక ఇలాగే వెయిట్ చేస్తుంటే లైఫ్ చూస్తుండగానే గడిచిపోతుంది అనిపించింది. ఇండియాకు వచ్చాను. కోవిడ్ మూడు నెలలకు మించి ఉండదు అనుకుంటే రెండేళ్లు పట్టింది. ఫ్యామిలీ నుంచి ప్రెషర్ పెరిగింది. ఈ టెన్షన్ లో స్పార్క్ అనే ఒక మూవీ చేశాను. ఆ సినిమా నాకు చేదు అనుభవం మిగిల్చింది. ఆ తర్వాత చిన్న గ్యాప్ తీసుకుని థియేటర్ ద్వారా నటనను మెరుగుపర్చుకున్నా.
– ఆ తర్వాత ఒకరోజు శ్రీధర్ గారిని కలిసే అవకాశం వచ్చింది. ఆ తర్వాత ఆయన సంతాన ప్రాప్తిరస్తు స్క్రిప్ట్ పంపించారు. స్పెర్మ్ కౌంట్ తక్కువగా ఉండే హీరో కథ ఇది. మన తెలుగు ఆడియెన్స్ కు నచ్చుతుందా అనే సందేహం ఉండేది. అయితే స్క్రిప్ట్ కంప్లీట్ గా చదివాక ఎక్కడా లైన్ క్రాస్ కాకుండా, అసభ్యత లేకుండా చిన్నపిల్లల నుంచి పెద్ద వాళ్ల వరకు అందరూ చూసేలా కథ ఉంది. దాంతో ఈ సినిమా అందరికీ నచ్చుతుందనే నమ్మకం కలిగింది. పెద్ద హీరోలు ఇలాంటి మూవీస్ చేయరు. వారికి ఇమేజ్ అడ్డు వస్తుంది. నాలాంటి కొత్త వాళ్లే ఇలాంటి డిఫరెంట్ ప్రయత్నాలు చేయాలి. పైగా కోవిడ్ తర్వాత వరల్డ్ సినిమాకు మనమంతా అలవాటు అయ్యాం. కొత్త జానర్, కొత్త కథలు ప్రేక్షకులు ఆదరిస్తున్నారు. నాలాంటి కొత్త హీరోలు రెగ్యులర్ ఫార్మేట్ మూవీస్ చేస్తే ఎవరికీ నచ్చదు. డిఫరెంట్ మూవీస్ చేయాలి, అందరికీ రిలేట్ అయ్యేలా ఉండాలి అనుకున్నా. “సంతాన ప్రాప్తిరస్తు”లో కథ ఇన్ ఫెర్టిలిటీ అనే ఒక సెన్సిటివ్ ఇష్యూను తీసుకుని దానికి ఎంటర్ టైన్ మెంట్ యాడ్ చేశాం. సినిమా మూడొంతులు ఎంటర్ టైన్ మెంట్ తో సాగుతుంది, చివరలో మంచి ఎమోషన్ తో, మెసేజ్ తో ఆడియన్స్ థియేటర్స్ నుంచి బయటకు వెళ్తారు.
– దర్శకుడు సంజీవ్ గారు 2017 నుంచి సిద్ధం చేసుకున్న స్టోరీ ఇది. ఎక్కడా ఒక్క సీన్ కూడా కదల్చనంత పక్కాగా స్క్రిప్ట్ చేశారు. ఈ మూవీలో చైతన్య అనే సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ఎంప్లాయ్ రోల్ చేశాను. ప్రతి సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ఎంప్లాయ్ ఈ క్యారెక్టర్ తో రిలేట్ అవుతారు. ఈ పాత్ర కోసం ఆరు కిలోల బరువు పెరిగాను. టిపికల్ సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ఎంప్లాయ్ లుక్ లోకి మారిపోయాను. ఇప్పుడున్న కపుల్స్ లో సంతాన సమస్య ఎక్కువగా ఉంది. ఒక సర్వే ప్రకారం ప్రతి పది జంటల్లో మూడు జంటలు ఇన్ ఫెర్టిలిటీ సమస్యతో బాధపడుతున్నారు. వారందరూ ఈ సినిమాతో రిలేట్ అవుతారు. సంతాన లేమి అనే సమస్యను మేము ఎక్కడా కామెడీ చేయలేదు. వాళ్లను గేలి చేయలేదు. ఆ సమస్య చుట్టూ ఎంటర్ టైన్ మెంట్ డిజైన్ చేశాం. కాబట్టి ఎవర్నీ కించపరిచినట్లు ఉండదు. పైగా ఈ సినిమా చూశాక ఇన్ ఫెర్టిలిటీతో బాధపడుతున్నా వారికి ఒక హోప్ కలుగుతుంది.
– మంచి మూవీస్ చేసి పేరు తెచ్చుకున్న చాందినీ మా చిత్రానికి ఆకర్షణగా నిలుస్తుంది. చాందినీ, నేను కొన్ని సీన్స్ వర్క్ షాప్ చేసి సెట్ మీదకు వెళ్లాం. నా క్యారెక్టర్ తర్వాత చాందినీ, వెన్నెల కిషోర్ క్యారెక్టర్స్ సినిమాలో కీలకంగా ఉంటాయి. తరుణ్ భాస్కర్ నా అభిమాన దర్శకుడు. ఆయన ఈ సినిమాలో జాక్ రెడ్డి రోల్ చేశారు. తరుణ్ భాస్కర్ గారితో కలిసి నటించడం మర్చిపోలేను. సంతాన ప్రాప్తిరస్తు సినిమాలో హీరోయిన్ ఫాదర్ రోల్ లో మురళీధర్ గౌడ్ నటించారు. ఆయన తన కూతురును ప్రభుత్వ ఉద్యోగికి ఇచ్చి పెళ్లి చేయాలనుకుంటాడు. కానీ చాందినీ నన్ను ప్రేమిస్తుంది. మేము ప్రెగ్నెన్సీ విషయంలో వంద రోజుల ఛాలెంజ్ ఎదుర్కోవాల్సి వస్తుంది. ఒకప్పుడు కొత్త జంటలు మూడు నెలల్లో ప్రెగ్నెన్సీ గుడ్ న్యూస్ చెప్పేవారట. ఇప్పుడు ఆ టైమ్ 19 నెలలకు పెరిగిందని ఒక సర్వేలో తేలింది. అంటే మనం లైఫ్ లో స్ట్రెస్, పరుగుల వల్ల, ఆర్థిక పరిస్థితులు, ఉద్యోగాల వల్ల పిల్లల్ని కనడం వాయిదా వేసుకోవడమో లేదా పిల్లల్ని కనే సామర్థ్యం తగ్గిపోవడమో జరుగుతోంది.
– మా మూవీ షూటింగ్ త్వరగా పూర్తయినా, పోస్ట్ ప్రొడక్షన్ కు టైమ్ పట్టింది. సునీల్ కశ్యప్ గారు ఇతర ప్రాజెక్ట్స్ లో బిజిగా ఉండటం వల్ల బీజీఎం అజయ్ అరసాడ చేశారు. ఆయన చాలా మంచి బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ అందించారు. దాంతో పాటు తెలుసా నీ కోసమే సాంగ్ కూడా కంపోజ్ చేశారు. మా సినిమాలో పాటలు మంచి ఆదరణ పొందుతున్నాయి. మా సినిమాకు ఓటీటీ రిలీజ్ కోసం మంచి ఆఫర్స్ వచ్చాయి. సినిమా బాగుండటంతోనే ఓటీటీలు తీసుకునేందుకు ముందుకొచ్చాయి.
– సినిమాలో సాంగ్స్, ఫన్ అన్నీ ఆర్గానిక్ గా కుదిరాయి. ఏదీ కావాలని తీసుకొచ్చి ఇరికించినట్లు ఉండదు. సెన్సార్ నుంచి కూడా మాకు ప్రశంసలు వచ్చాయి. యుఎ సర్టిఫికేషన్ ఇచ్చారు. దీన్ని బట్టే డైరెక్టర్ సంజీవ్ గారు సినిమాను ఎంత సెన్సిటివ్ గా డీల్ చేశారో అర్థం చేసుకోవచ్చు. రీసెంట్ గా పలు చోట్ల ప్రీమియర్స్ వేశాం. ప్రేక్షకుల నుంచి మంచి రెస్పాన్స్ వచ్చింది. ఇటీవల కాలంలో ఇలాంటి ఫ్యామిలీ ఎంటర్ టైనర్ చూడలేదని ఆడియెన్స్ మా దగ్గరకు వచ్చి చెప్పడం హ్యాపీగా అనిపించింది.
– ఈ సినిమా తర్వాత శ్రీధర్ గారి బ్యానర్ లోనే దర్శకుడు సంజీవ్ రెడ్డితో సర్పంచ్ అనే మూవీ చేయబోతున్నా. గ్రామీణ నేపథ్యంగా సాగే చిత్రమిది. ఈ కథలోనూ కొన్ని సోషల్ ఇష్యూస్ చెబుతున్నా, ఈ చిత్రంలో లాగా కంప్లీట్ ఎంటర్ టైన్ మెంట్ తో వెళ్తున్నాం. మృత్యుంజయ మార్కండేయ అనే మరో సోషియో ఫాంటసీ మూవీకి ప్రయత్నాలు చేస్తున్నాం.
