Blending crime, mystery and emotional drama, Panchanama is set to take Telugu audiences into a gripping investigation where every death raises new questions. The Telugu ZEE5 Original held its first-episode screening and press meet at Prasad Labs in Hyderabad on September 9, ahead of its September 11 premiere. Directed by Mohan Srivatsa, the investigative thriller stars Bharath Srinivasan as Jai Ram, alongside Medha Reddy, Shivaji Raja, Surya Srinivas, Srija, Radhika Preethi, Charan Babu and Shiva Karthik Danda. Q: Udaya Bhanu ma’am, why have you become more emotional in recent years?
Udaya Bhanu: “I believe being emotional is a strength. In today’s world, sensitivity has become rare, and I am happy to remain the way I am. While thanking ZEE5 for this opportunity, memories of my 15-year journey, struggles and the many stories I carried with me came rushing back, making me emotional.”
Q: Do you feel you’ve been carrying a burden over the past few years?
Udaya Bhanu: “My only burden is my desire to produce two or three more films quickly and create opportunities for many talented people. That is the only pressure I carry.”
Q: How challenging was it to produce a web series within ZEE5’s corporate structure and tight schedule?
Udaya Bhanu: “When you work with passion, nothing is difficult. This project was a great learning experience, and delivering such quality in just 22–24 days has given me the confidence to take on bigger projects. With 40–45 days, I believe we can achieve even better results.”
Q: What is the fundamental difference between producing a web series and a feature film?
Udaya Bhanu: “Films involve larger sets, multiple locations, songs and coordinating many artists, which takes more time. In a web series, everything depends on precise planning and scheduling. Every minute matters, so thorough preparation helps us complete the project efficiently and meet our targets.”
Q: Did you enter production because of declining anchoring opportunities, or was it always your passion?
Udaya Bhanu: “Producing has always been my passion. I wanted to enter the film space and create fresh, different content rather than follow conventional formats. Over the years, I have collected many stories that I hope to produce one after another. I never wanted to limit myself to just one role.”
Q: What is the key difference between producing a web series and a feature film?
Udaya Bhanu: “Films involve larger sets, multiple locations, songs and coordinating artists’ dates, which takes more time. For a web series, precise planning is everything. Every minute matters, so detailed preparation and scheduling help us avoid delays and complete the project efficiently.”
Q: Why have you been away from Telugu cinema after Spyder?
Bharath: “I was busy with Tamil projects, and I didn’t receive interesting Telugu scripts. I have reached a stage in my career where I choose roles that satisfy me creatively, so I’m waiting for the right opportunity in Telugu.”
Q: If you were to do a multi-starrer, which Telugu hero would you choose?
Bharath: “Definitely Allu Arjun. He is one of India’s biggest stars, and I would love to work with him—especially in a great dance sequence. I’m open to any role, including a villain or antagonist.”
Q: Why did you choose Panchanama as your first production?
Udaya Bhanu: “We initially pitched three original stories to ZEE5, but they suggested starting with a remake. With their creative freedom, we developed a completely fresh narrative, retaining only the core murder mystery and fingerprint elements. The initial proposal came from ZEE5.”
Q: The first two episodes seemed quite violent. How intense will the remaining episodes be?
Udaya Bhanu: “The series reflects situations we see around us, including betrayal and manipulation. However, it is primarily an emotional story, with every character having a strong backstory and a reason behind their actions.”
Q: When can we expect the next project from Udaya Bhanu Productions?
Udaya Bhanu: “The next project will be a film, immediately after Panchanama.”
Q: How do you balance love, action, feature films and OTT projects?
Bharath: “Pure love stories are rare today, so films need a mix of emotions, including love and action. I don’t see feature films and OTT as separate. Feature films remain my priority, but I’m happy to take up interesting OTT projects with strong content.”
Q: Are you currently giving more importance to OTT projects in Tamil or Telugu?
Bharath: “This was the only Telugu project that came my way, and I found the story very interesting. It also suited my dates, so I was happy to take it up. I’m glad to be part of Panchanama.”
Q: What made you choose the cop role in Panchanama?
Bharath: “I chose Panchanama because of its tightly woven crime-thriller screenplay and strong binge-watch appeal. I also saw it as an opportunity to reconnect with Telugu audiences. My character Jai Ram is different from my earlier cop roles—he is realistic, emotional and deeply connected to his family and the story.”
Q: What are your promotional plans for Panchanama?
Mohan: “I believe the content will speak for itself. Udaya Bhanu garu gave me the opportunity to handle this challenging non-linear screenplay and supported me throughout. Good content will always reach audiences, regardless of the hero’s stature.”
Q: What is the common emotional thread between the “closed doors” and “syndicate” experiences you mentioned?
Udaya Bhanu: “Building a career without any backing is extremely difficult, especially for a woman. I faced many setbacks, but I never stopped trying. Whenever doors closed or opportunities were delayed, I kept moving forward instead of waiting. My perseverance and determination brought me to where I am today.”
Q: Why did you choose a supporting role in Panchanama despite concerns about being stereotyped?
Surya Srinivas: “The character offered strong scope for performance, which attracted me immediately. I want to establish myself as a good actor and choose roles that give me a fresh image. The vision narrated to me translated beautifully on screen, and I’m happy with the result.”
Q: What are the major challenges you faced as a producer?
Udaya Bhanu: “Every day was a challenge, especially with unpredictable weather, 36 locations and constantly changing or reconstructed sets. With a tight schedule, completing each day’s shoot on time felt like a race.”
Q: How confident are you that audiences will connect with the emotional story of Panchanama?
Udaya Bhanu: “I am 100% confident. The first two episodes are just the beginning, with the main story unfolding from the third episode. I believe good, emotional content will always connect with audiences, regardless of the platform.”

Bharath: “Feature films remain my primary focus, but I don’t see films and OTT as separate. I prefer projects with strong content and a mix of emotions, including love and action. If an interesting OTT opportunity comes along, I’m happy to take it.”

హీరో ప్రేమిస్తే భరత్ మాట్లాడుతూ.. “నా కెరీర్లో ‘జీ5’ యాప్ చాలా ముఖ్యమైన పాత్ర పోషించింది. నా తమిళ సినిమాలకు ఎంతో సపోర్ట్ ఇచ్చింది. ముఖ్యంగా 2019లో నేను పోలీస్ ఆఫీసర్గా నటించిన నా మొదటి సినిమా ‘కాళిదాస్’ విడుదలకు ముందే, నా కెరీర్ కాస్త డౌన్లో ఉన్న సమయంలో ZEE వాళ్లు ఆ కంటెంట్ను నమ్మి తీసుకున్నారు. ఆ సినిమా తమిళంలో పెద్ద హిట్ అయింది, అక్కడి నుంచి నా కెరీర్ మళ్లీ ఊపందుకుంది. ఇప్పుడు జీ5 తెలుగు టీమ్ ‘పంచనామా’ను అనుకున్న విధంగా తీసుకురావడంలో కీలక పాత్ర పోషించింది. వారికి నా హృదయపూర్వక ధన్యవాదాలు. నా 24 ఏళ్ల కెరీర్లో ఇంత తక్కువ సమయంలో ఇంత స్పష్టతతో, ఎంతో ప్యాషన్తో చేసిన ఏకైక ప్రాజెక్ట్ ఇది. నిజం చెప్పాలంటే ఉదయభాను గారు.. మొదట్లో ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ను 22-25 రోజుల్లో ఎలా పూర్తి చేస్తారోనని నాకు అస్సలు నమ్మకం కలగలేదు. ఇలాంటి జానర్లో స్క్రీన్ప్లే చాలా పక్కాగా ఉండాలి, ప్రేక్షకులకు ఆరు ఎపిసోడ్లు బోర్ కొట్టకుండా బింజ్ వాచ్ చేసేలా ఉండాలి. కానీ సెట్కి వచ్చిన రెండు మూడు రోజుల్లోనే దర్శకుడు మోహన్ గారి క్లారిటీ చూశాక నా ఆలోచన మారింది. యాక్టర్లను ఎలా హ్యాండిల్ చేయాలో తెలిసిన దర్శకుడు ఆయన. హీరోయిన్ మేధాకు, తోటి నటీనటులందరికీ ఆల్ ది బెస్ట్. చేసే పనిపై ప్రేమ, సినిమా పట్ల ఉన్న ప్యాషన్ ప్రొడక్షన్ అంటే.. అది నేను భానుజీ, విజయ్ సర్ ఇద్దరిలో చూశాను. తక్కువ సమయంలో క్వాలిటీ వస్తుందా లేదా అని భాను గారు చాలా టెన్షన్ పడ్డారు. కానీ మొదటి రెండు ఎపిసోడ్లు చూసిన తర్వాత చెబుతున్నాను.. ఒక క్రైమ్ థ్రిల్లర్కు కావాల్సిన అన్ని అంశాలు, పవర్ఫుల్ పాయింట్లు ఇందులో ఉన్నాయి. కంటెంట్ బాగుంటే ప్రేక్షకులు కచ్చితంగా ఆదరిస్తారు. ప్రస్తుతం కంటెంట్ ఈజ్ కింగ్. కొత్త టాలెంట్ను ఇలాగే ప్రోత్సహించండి. ఇకపై తెలుగులో మరిన్ని మంచి సినిమాలు, వెబ్ సిరీస్లతో మీ ముందుకు వస్తా..” అని అన్నారు.
నిర్మాత విజయేంద్ర మౌళి మాట్లాడుతూ.. మొదటగా జీ5 వారికి ప్రత్యేక ధన్యవాదాలు తెలియజేస్తున్నాను. అనురాధ మేడమ్ మమ్మల్ని నమ్మి ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ను మాకు అప్పగించారు. మేము ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ను విజయవంతంగా చేయగలమని నమ్మి వారు ఇచ్చిన గడువులో పూర్తి చేయగలిగామంటే, అది కచ్చితంగా ‘జీ’ వారి ప్రోత్సాహం వల్లే సాధ్యమైంది. ఒక ప్రాజెక్ట్ను ఇంత వేగంగా, ఇంత పక్కాగా ఎలా పూర్తి చేయవచ్చో మాకు ‘జీ’ టీమే నేర్పించింది, ఇది మాకు చాలా గొప్ప అనుభవం. మా యూనిట్ మొత్తం చాలా కష్టపడింది. ఉదయం 6 గంటలకే షూటింగ్ మొదలుపెట్టి, మధ్యాహ్నం 3 నుంచి 4 గంటల వరకు నిరంతరం తీసిన సందర్భాలు ఉన్నాయి. మా డైరెక్టర్ గారు చెప్పినట్లుగా దోమలు, ఎండ వేడి ఉన్నప్పటికీ ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ ఎంతో ఓపికతో, సహకారంతో పనిచేశారు. ఆ కష్టమంతా తెరపై అవుట్పుట్ రూపంలో కనిపిస్తుందని నమ్ముతున్నాను. మా టీమ్లో గ్రౌండ్ లెవల్ నుంచి టాప్ లెవల్ వరకు పని చేసిన ప్రతి ఒక్కరికీ పేరుపేరునా హృదయపూర్వక ధన్యవాదాలు. భవిష్యత్తులో వచ్చే ప్రాజెక్టుల్లో కూడా మీ అందరితో కలిసి మళ్లీ మళ్లీ పనిచేయాలని కోరుకుంటున్నాను.” అని చెప్పారు.
డైరెక్టర్ మోహన్ శ్రీవత్స మాట్లాడుతూ.. “నా తోబుట్టువు నాకు పండగ పిలుపునిచ్చినట్లు అనిపించింది. గత నెలలో ఉదయభాను గారు నన్ను కలిసి ‘ఇలాంటి నాన్-లీనియర్ స్క్రీన్ప్లే మీరైతేనే డీల్ చేయగలరు’ అని నా దగ్గరకు వచ్చినప్పుడు నా సొంత సోదరి వచ్చినంత ఆనందమేసింది. నేను గతంలో బాధల్లో ఉన్న సమయంలోనూ ఆవిడ నా పక్కనే నిలబడ్డారు. గ్లామర్ క్వీన్ అయిన ఉదయభాను గారు, విజయ్ గారు వర్షాకాలంలో దోమలు కుడుతున్నా సెట్లోనే ఉండి అన్ని క్రాఫ్ట్స్ను మేనేజ్ చేశారు. ‘మేడం మీరు క్వీన్, ఇక్కడికి ఎందుకు రావడం’ అన్నా వినకుండా ‘మీ దగ్గర అసోసియేట్లా పని చేస్తాం’ అంటూ డైరెక్టర్కు కావాల్సినవన్నీ సమకూర్చారు. ఇంత తక్కువ సమయంలో ఇంత క్వాలిటీ ప్రొడక్ట్ రావడానికి వాళ్ళే కారణం. ఆ వెంకటేశ్వర స్వామి ఆశీస్సులతో ఈ బ్యానర్ ఎంతో ఎత్తుకు ఎదగాలని, నాలాంటి ఎంతోమంది దర్శకులకు భవిష్యత్తులో అవకాశాలు ఇవ్వాలని కోరుకుంటున్నాను. భరత్ సర్ ఇప్పటికే దాదాపు 55 సినిమాలు చేశారు, అందులో ఎన్నో సూపర్ హిట్స్ ఉన్నాయి. అయినా కారవాన్కు వెళ్లకుండా, సెట్లోనే కూర్చొని వర్షాకాలం దోమల స్ప్రేలు కొట్టుకుంటూ నాతో పాటు సీన్స్ డిస్కస్ చేసేవారు. ఆయనతో పనిచేసే జర్నీ చాలా బ్యూటిఫుల్గా సాగింది. మేధా స్క్రీన్ ప్రెజెన్స్ చాలా బాగుంటుంది. డైరెక్షన్ టీమ్ అంతా పోస్ట్ ప్రొడక్షన్ పనుల్లో బిజీగా ఉన్నారు. సెప్టెంబర్ 11న జీ5 ఓటీటీలో ప్రతి ఒక్కరు తప్పకుండా చూడండి.” అని కోరారు.
హీరోయిన్ మేధా రెడ్డి మాట్లాడుతూ.. “ఇంతమంది సీనియర్, అనుభవజ్ఞులైన నటీనటుల మధ్య నాకు ఈ అవకాశం రావడం నా అదృష్టం. ఈ పాత్ర కోసం ఎందరో అమ్మాయిలను చూసి చివరకు నన్ను ఎంపిక చేసుకున్నారు. నాలో ఏం చూశారో తెలియదు కానీ, వారి నమ్మకాన్ని నిలబెట్టుకోవడానికి ఎల్లప్పుడూ కష్టపడి పనిచేస్తాను. నిర్మాతగా ఉదయభాను గారికి ఇది మొదటి ప్రాజెక్ట్ అయినప్పటికీ.. ప్రతిరోజూ ఫస్ట్ షాట్ నుంచి లాస్ట్ షాట్ వరకు, లొకేషన్ ఏదైనా సెట్లోనే ఉండేవారు. ఈ షోకి ప్రధాన ఆకర్షణ భరత్ గారు. ఆయనతో మళ్లీ మళ్లీ పనిచేయాలని ఉంది. మోహన్ గారు నా మొదటి దర్శకుడు. అంతమంది అనుభవజ్ఞులైన నటీనటుల మధ్య నాపై ఉన్న బాధ్యతను ఆయన ఎంతో ఓపికతో ముందుకు నడిపించారు. ప్రతి సీన్ను ఆయనే స్వయంగా నటించి చూపిస్తూ నాకు నేర్పించారు. జీ5 వారికి నా ప్రత్యేక ధన్యవాదాలు. చిన్నప్పటి నుంచి జీ నెట్వర్క్లో ‘మాయాద్వీపం’, ‘ఆట జూనియర్స్’ వంటి షోలు చూస్తూ పెరిగాను. అలాంటి ప్లాట్ఫామ్తో అసోసియేట్ అవ్వడం నాకు ఎంతో గర్వంగా, ఆనందంగా ఉంది.” అని చెప్పారు.
నటుడు సూర్య శ్రీనివాస్ మాట్లాడుతూ.. “పంచనామా సిరీస్లో నేను ‘హరి’ అనే పాత్ర చేశాను. ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ కోసం కాల్ వచ్చినప్పుడు ఉదయభాను గారు గుక్క తిప్పుకోకుండా ప్రతి డీటెయిల్ చెప్పారు. ఒక ప్రొడ్యూసర్గా ప్రాజెక్ట్పై అంత గ్రిప్ ఉండటం చూసి నాకు చాలా ఆశ్చర్యమేసింది. ఆవిడ చెప్పిన నెరేటివ్ చాలా ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్గా, నా రోల్ ఎక్సైటింగ్గా అనిపించడంతో వెంటనే ఆన్బోర్డ్ అయ్యాను. ఉదయభాను గారు కేవలం డబ్బులు పెట్టడమే కాకుండా ప్రతి విభాగంలోనూ ఎంతో ప్యాషన్తో ఇన్వాల్వ్ అయ్యారు. యాంకర్గా, నటిగా ఎంతటి గుర్తింపు తెచ్చుకున్నారో, నిర్మాతగానూ అదే స్థాయిలో నిలబడతారు. దర్శకుడు మోహన్ గారు ఒక ఆల్రౌండర్. పాటలు పాడతారు, యాక్టింగ్ వచ్చు, డైరెక్షన్ వచ్చు. ఆయన డైరెక్షన్లో చాలా ఈజీగా వర్క్ చేసేశాం. ZEE5, ఉదయభాను ప్రొడక్షన్ కలిసి సెప్టెంబర్ 11న మీ ఇంటి డోర్లు కొడుతున్నాం. ఇది ప్రేక్షకులకు ఒక మంచి సినిమా ఎక్స్పీరియన్స్ ఇస్తుందని నమ్ముతున్నాను, అందరూ తప్పకుండా ZEE5 లో చూడండి.” అని కోరారు.
నటి శ్రీజ మాట్లాడుతూ.. మొదటి రెండు ఎపిసోడ్లు చూసిన తర్వాత ఎమోషనల్ సీన్లు చాలా అద్భుతంగా వచ్చాయి. సిరీస్ మొత్తం అంతకుమించి సస్పెన్స్ ఎంతో థ్రిల్లింగ్గా ఉంటుంది. ఈ సిరీస్లో నేను ఒక మిస్టీరియస్, సస్పెన్స్తో కూడిన కీలక పాత్రను పోషించాను. ఇది నా కెరీర్లో మొట్టమొదటి ఓటీటీ ప్రాజెక్ట్. ఉదయ భాను, భరత్, దర్శకుడు మోహన్ నాకు ఒక నటిగా మొదటి మెంటార్స్గా నిలిచారు. సెట్లో అందరూ ఎంతో సరదాగా గడుపుతూ నాకు నటన నేర్పించారు. ఈ సిరీస్ చాలా అద్భుతంగా వచ్చింది. అందరూ తప్పకుండా వీక్షించాలి.” అని కోరారు.
నటుడు శివ కార్తీక్ దండ మాట్లాడుతూ.. “నేను ఫస్ట్ టైమ్ పోలీస్ రోల్ ప్లే చేశా. డైరెక్టర్ మోహన్ సార్తో కలిసి పని చేయటం చాలా సంతోషంగా ఉంది. ఆయన ఎనర్జీ ఎంతంటే.. మార్నింగ్ ఎలా అయితే వస్తారో.. ఈవినింగ్ వరకు కూడా అంతే యాక్టివ్గా అలా ఉంటారు. భరత్ భయ్యతో కలిసి 13 రోజులు నటించా. చాలా మంచి ఎక్స్పీరియన్స్. ఇలాంటి సినిమాలు తెలుగులో మళ్లీ మళ్లీ రావాలి. ఇది మంచి చాలా సిరీస్. చాలా ఎంగేజింగ్గా ఉంటుంది. మీ ఫ్రెండ్స్ అందరికీ షేర్ చేయండి.” అని కోరారు.
రైటర్ నాగేంద్ర పిల్లా మాట్లాడుతూ.. “ఒకరికి థాంక్స్ చెప్పాలి. ఉదయభాను మేడమ్ బాగా ట్రస్ట్ చేశారు. నేను ఏ మార్పులు చెప్పినా సరే బాగా బిలీవ్ చేసి నన్ను ఎంకరేజ్ చేశారు. ప్రొడ్యూసర్ విజయ్ సార్కు కూడా థాంక్స్ చెప్పాలి. టైమ్కి డబుల్ ఇచ్చేసారు. డైరెక్టర్ మోహన్ సార్తో ఇది సెకండ్ ప్రాజెక్ట్. రాయటం ఎలా ఉన్నా కానీ రియాలిటీలో ప్రాజెక్ట్ను డీల్ చేయడం అంత ఈజీ కాదు. గ్రౌండ్ లెవల్లో చాలా మంది టెక్నికల్ టీమ్ మెంబర్స్ చాలా బాగా పని చేశారు. ఈ సిరీస్ తప్పకుండా అలరిస్తుంది..” అని చెప్పారు.
