Actor-director Sheraz Mehdi Makes Sensational Allegations
Actor and director Sheraz Mehdi has alleged that a major conspiracy is being carried out against small-budget films in the Telugu film industry. Addressing a press conference at the Film Chamber regarding the difficulties faced during the release and re-release of his film O Andala Rakshasi, he expressed deep concern over the treatment of low-budget filmmakers.
Sheraz claimed that the issue is not limited to his film alone and that many producers of small-budget movies are facing injustice. He alleged that theaters often promise screens to small films but withdraw their commitments at the last minute. According to him, politics and favoritism are influencing the theater allocation system, causing significant losses to smaller productions.
He stated that in major cities such as Hyderabad, small films are given only a limited number of shows, often at less favorable time slots when audience turnout is low. As a result, many films fail before they even get a chance to reach viewers.
Sheraz further said that the challenges faced by small films extend beyond theatrical releases. He claimed that low-budget productions encounter obstacles in securing audio rights, satellite rights, OTT platform deals, and overseas distribution opportunities. He also expressed concern that opportunities for new directors and producers are shrinking.
Speaking about O Andala Rakshasi, Sheraz said that everyone who watched the preview appreciated the film and believed it had strong potential. However, he alleged that influential figures within the industry were preventing the film from getting the recognition it deserved.
He stated that despite submitting multiple complaints to the Film Chamber, he had not received a satisfactory response. Sheraz expressed hope that Bharat Bhushan would take steps to address the issues faced by small filmmakers.
The director also revealed that he had sent legal notices to PVR, INOX, and Asian Cinemas regarding what he described as unfair theater allocation practices. He added that if his film had received adequate support during its initial release, there would have been no need for a re-release.
Sheraz urged the governments of the Telugu states to introduce special incentives and support schemes for small-budget films, noting that several other states provide subsidies to filmmakers. He said that while many people in the industry are aware of these issues, they are reluctant to speak openly out of fear.
Concluding his remarks, Sheraz stated that he is determined to fight for what he believes is right. He also hinted that if the situation does not improve, he may consider leaving the Telugu film industry and working in other language industries.

తెలుగు సినీ పరిశ్రమలో చిన్న బడ్జెట్ సినిమాలపై ఇండస్ట్రీలో పెద్ద కుట్ర జరుగుతోందని దర్శకుడు, నటుడు షెరాజ్ మెహదీ ఆరోపించారు. తన చిత్రం ‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’ విడుదల, రీ-రిలీజ్ సమయంలో ఎదురైన ఇబ్బందులపై ఫిల్మ్ చాంబర్లో నిర్వహించిన మీడియా సమావేశంలో ఆయన ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. నా సినిమా మీద మాత్రమే కాదు లో-బడ్జెట్ సినిమాల నిర్మాతలకు అన్యాయం చేస్తున్నారు. చిన్న సినిమాలకు థియేటర్లు ఇస్తామని హామీ ఇచ్చి చివరి నిమిషంలో వెనక్కి తీసుకుంటున్నారని షెరాజ్ ఆరోపించారు. థియేటర్ల కేటాయింపు వ్యవస్థలో రాజకీయాలు పనిచేస్తున్నాయని, దీనివల్ల చిన్న చిత్రాలు నష్టపోతున్నాయని తెలిపారు.
హైదరాబాద్ వంటి ప్రధాన నగరాల్లో చిన్న చిత్రాలకు పరిమిత సంఖ్యలో మాత్రమే షోలు ఇస్తున్నారని, అవి కూడా ప్రేక్షకులు తక్కువగా వచ్చే సమయాల్లో కేటాయిస్తున్నారని ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. దీని వల్ల సినిమాలు ప్రేక్షకుల దృష్టికి చేరకముందే విఫలమయ్యే పరిస్థితి ఏర్పడుతోందన్నారు. థియేటర్లతో పాటు ఆడియో రైట్స్, శాటిలైట్ హక్కులు, ఓటీటీ ప్లాట్ఫార్ములు, ఓవర్సీస్ మార్కెట్ వంటి అన్ని విభాగాల్లోనూ చిన్న సినిమాలు ఇబ్బందులు ఎదుర్కొంటున్నాయని చెప్పారు. కొత్త దర్శకులు, నిర్మాతలకు అవకాశాలు తగ్గిపోతున్నాయని ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు.
‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’ సినిమా చాలా బాగా వచ్చిందని ప్రివ్యూ చూసిన ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ చెప్పారు. అంత హిట్ సినిమాను కూడా ఇండస్ట్రీ పెద్దలు రానివ్వడం లేదు. ఈ సమస్యపై ఫిల్మ్ చాంబర్లో పలుమార్లు ఫిర్యాదు చేసినప్పటికీ స్పందన రాలేదన్నారు. భరత్ భూషణ్ గారు తమ సమస్యల పరిష్కారానికి చర్యలు తీసుకుంటారని ఆశిస్తున్నట్లు తెలిపారు. థియేటర్ల కేటాయింపులో జరిగిన అన్యాయంపై పీవీఆర్, ఐనాక్స్, ఏషియన్ సినిమాస్ సంస్థలకు లీగల్ నోటీసులు పంపినట్లు వెల్లడించారు. మొదటి విడుదల సమయంలో సరైన అవకాశాలు లభించి ఉంటే రీ-రిలీజ్ అవసరం వచ్చేది కాదని పేర్కొన్నారు.
ఇతర రాష్ట్రాల్లో సినిమాలకు సబ్సిడీలు అందుతున్నాయని, తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో కూడా చిన్న చిత్రాలకు ప్రత్యేక ప్రోత్సాహక విధానాలు తీసుకురావాలని షెరాజ్ కోరారు. ఇండస్ట్రీలో సమస్యలు ఉన్నప్పటికీ చాలామంది భయంతో బహిరంగంగా మాట్లాడడం లేదని, తాను మాత్రం నిజం కోసం పోరాడుతున్నానని షెరాజ్ తెలిపారు. పరిస్థితులు మారకపోతే తెలుగు చిత్ర పరిశ్రమను విడిచి ఇతర భాషా పరిశ్రమల్లో పనిచేయాలనే ఆలోచన కూడా ఉందని ఆయన వ్యాఖ్యానించారు.
