Theatres are in the Hands of Four Demons – Actor, Director Sheraz Mehdi

Actor–director Sheraz Mehdi has expressed deep anguish over the lack of theatre allocation for the re-release of his film O Andala Rakshasi, alleging that small films are being systematically sidelined in the Telugu film industry.

Speaking at a press meet held at the Telugu Film Chamber, Sheraz Mehdi said that despite planning a re-release of the film on April 24 following audience demand, not a single theatre was allotted in the Nizam region. He described the situation as unfair and discouraging for independent filmmakers.

“This is not the first time our film has been denied theatres. Small films are being suppressed,” he said.

He further alleged that the theatre distribution system in the Telugu film industry is concentrated in the hands of a few individuals. “Movie theatres are in the control of four powerful people who are blocking small films from releasing. I will fight this legally,” he stated.

“I Am Under Severe Mental Stress”

Sheraz Mehdi also spoke emotionally about the personal impact of the situation, saying he has been under significant psychological stress due to repeated obstacles in releasing his film.

“If anything happens to me, Dil Raju, Suresh Babu, Bijili, and Sunil will be responsible,” he said. He also alleged that theatre chains such as INOX and Asian Cinemas failed to honor earlier assurances regarding screen allocation.

“Small Films Are Being Killed”

He warned that the current environment is extremely difficult for small producers and filmmakers.

“Small filmmakers are suffering. Good films are being killed before they reach audiences. Such a situation does not exist anywhere else in the world—not even in Bollywood,” he remarked. He added that unless equal opportunities are provided to smaller productions, emerging talent will struggle to survive in the industry.

Positive Response to O Andala Rakshasi

According to the film’s team, O Andala Rakshasi, directed by Sheraz Mehdi and featuring him in the lead role, had earlier received a positive response from audiences. The film was also released in Kannada as O Sundara Rakshasi, where it reportedly gained appreciation.

The cast includes Vihanshi Hegde, Krithi Varma, Neha Deshpande, Thammareddy Bharadwaja, Suman Talwar, Ananth Babu, and Priya in key roles.

Appealing to stakeholders and audiences alike, Sheraz Mehdi concluded with an emotional request:
“Please save the Telugu film industry.”

నైజాంలో ఒక్క థియేటర్ కూడా ఇవ్వలేదు.. చిన్న సినిమాలను తొక్కేస్తున్నారు – షెరాజ్ మెహదీ

తెలుగు సినిమా పరిశ్రమలో చిన్న సినిమాలకు థియేటర్లు దక్కడం లేదని నటుడు – దర్శకుడు షెరాజ్ మెహదీ తీవ్ర ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. తెలుగు ఫిలిం చాంబర్‌లో నిర్వహించిన ప్రెస్‌మీట్‌లో మాట్లాడుతూ, తన దర్శకత్వంలో తానే హీరోగా నటించిన ‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’ సినిమా రీ-రిలీజ్‌కు కూడా థియేటర్లు ఇవ్వలేదని ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు .

ప్రేక్షకుల అభ్యర్థన మేరకు ఏప్రిల్ 24న ఈ చిత్రాన్ని రీ-రిలీజ్ చేయాలని నిర్ణయించినప్పటికీ, ముఖ్యంగా నైజాం ప్రాంతంలో ఒక్క థియేటర్ కూడా ఇవ్వకపోవడం బాధాకరమని తెలిపారు. “మా సినిమాకు ఈసారి కూడా థియేటర్లు ఇవ్వడం లేదు. ఇది చిన్న సినిమాలపై జరుగుతున్న అన్యాయం” అని ఆయన అన్నారు.

తెలుగు సినిమా థియేటర్ వ్యవస్థ కొద్దిమంది చేతుల్లోనే కేంద్రీకృతమైందని షెరాజ్ మెహదీ ఆరోపించారు. “నలుగురు రాక్షసుల చేతుల్లో సినిమా థియేటర్లు ఉన్నాయి. చిన్న సినిమాలు విడుదల కాకుండా అడ్డుకుంటున్నారు. దీనిపై నేను లీగల్‌గా పోరాటం చేస్తాను” అని స్పష్టం చేశారు.

చిన్న సినిమాల నిర్మాతలు ఎదుర్కొంటున్న ఇబ్బందులు తీవ్రంగా ఉన్నాయని, ఇలాంటి పరిస్థితులు కొనసాగితే చిన్న సినిమా నిర్మాణం పూర్తిగా ప్రమాదంలో పడుతుందని హెచ్చరించారు.

నాకు ఏమైనా జరిగితే వాళ్లే బాధ్యులు
తనకు వ్యక్తిగతంగా తీవ్ర మానసిక ఒత్తిడి ఎదురవుతోందని చెప్పిన షెరాజ్ మెహదీ, “నాకు ఏమైనా జరిగితే దిల్ రాజు, సురేష్ బాబు, బిజిలి, సునీల్ వంటి వారే కారణం అవుతారు” అంటూ భావోద్వేగానికి లోనయ్యారు.
ఇక ఐనాక్స్, ఏషియన్ థియేటర్ వ్యవస్థలో కూడా ముందుగా హామీ ఇచ్చినా థియేటర్లు ఇవ్వలేదని ఆయన ఆరోపించారు.

చిన్న సినిమాలను చంపేస్తున్నారు
తెలుగు పరిశ్రమలో చిన్న సినిమాలను వ్యవస్థత్మకంగా అణగదొక్కుతున్నారని షెరాజ్ మెహదీ ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. “చిన్న సినిమాల మూవీ మేకర్లు చనిపోతున్నారు. మంచి సినిమాలను కూడా చంపేస్తున్నారు. ప్రపంచంలో ఎక్కడా లేని దారుణ పరిస్థితి ఇక్కడ ఉంది. బాలీవుడ్‌లో కూడా ఇలా ఉండదు” అని అన్నారు.
చిన్న సినిమాలకు సమాన అవకాశాలు కల్పించకపోతే పరిశ్రమలో కొత్త ప్రతిభ ఎదగడం కష్టమవుతుందని ఆయన పేర్కొన్నారు.

‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’కి మంచి స్పందన
షెరాజ్ మెహదీ దర్శకత్వంలో రూపొందిన ‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’ చిత్రం గతంలో విడుదలై మంచి టాక్ సంపాదించిందని చిత్రయూనిట్ తెలిపింది. ఈ సినిమా కన్నడలో ‘ఓ సుందర రాక్షసి’ పేరుతో విడుదలై అక్కడ కూడా ఆదరణ పొందింది. ఇందులో విహాన్షి హెగాడే, కృతి వర్మ, నేహా దేశపాండే, తమ్మారెడ్డి భరద్వాజ్, సుమన్ తల్వార్, అనంత్ బాబు, ప్రియా తదితరులు కీలక పాత్రలు పోషించారు.

తెలుగు ఫిలిం ఇండస్ట్రీని కాపాడాలని కోరుతూ “ప్లీజ్ సేవ్ తెలుగు ఫిలిం ఇండస్ట్రీ” అని షెరాజ్ మెహదీ విజ్ఞప్తి చేశారు.
