Committee Kurrollu Scripts History with 2 Wins at the 72nd National Film Awards – Crowned Best Telugu Feature Film

Committee Kurrollu has scripted history at the 72nd National Film Awards, winning Best Telugu Feature Film, the highest honour for Telugu cinema at India’s most prestigious film awards. Adding to the celebrations, P. Ravi Kumar has been honoured with the Best Make-up award, making it a landmark double victory for the film and its entire team.

The National Film Awards represent the highest recognition for cinematic excellence in India, honouring films that make a lasting artistic, cultural, and social impact. Being named Best Telugu Feature Film is a defining milestone for Committee Kurrollu, recognizing not only its cinematic merit but also its powerful storytelling, rooted cultural identity, and meaningful social message.

Presented by Niharika Konidela and produced by Padmaja Konidela and Jayalakshmi Adapaka under the banners Pink Elephant Pictures and Shree Radha Damodar Studios, Committee Kurrollu marked Niharika Konidela’s debut as a feature-film producer. Choosing to back a rooted, content-driven story over conventional commercial formulas, she placed her faith in debut director  Yadhu Vamsee and an ensemble featuring 16 newcomers. That belief has now culminated in Indian cinema’s highest honour.

Written and directed by  Yadhu Vamsee, Committee Kurrollu is set in a small Andhra village and explores how a seemingly simple disagreement among a close-knit group of friends gradually evolves into a larger conflict that exposes issues of caste, class, identity, and collective responsibility. Seamlessly blending humour, nostalgia, emotion, and social commentary, the film struck a deep emotional chord with audiences while earning widespread acclaim from critics for its authenticity, sincerity, and powerful storytelling.

The National Award also stands as a fitting recognition of  Yadhu Vamsee’s remarkable directorial debut. With a distinct cinematic voice rooted in Telugu culture, he crafted a film that resonated far beyond regional boundaries while remaining deeply connected to its native soil. Following the phenomenal success of Committee Kurrollu, Yadhu Vamsi is now directing Bhari, starring ‘Mega Prince’ Varun Tej, reaffirming the industry’s confidence in one of Telugu cinema’s most promising young filmmakers.

The film’s second National Award celebrates the exceptional contribution of P. Ravi Kumar, who has won Best Make-up. His meticulous work played a significant role in authentically portraying the film’s expansive timeline and large ensemble cast, enhancing the realism that became one of the film’s defining visual strengths.

Released on August 9, 2024, Committee Kurrollu emerged as both a critical and commercial success. Made on a budget of ₹9 Crores, the film went on to collect ₹18.5 Crores at the theatrical box office while earning ₹6 Crores through non-theatrical business, taking its total revenue to ₹24.5 Crores. The film proved that compelling storytelling rooted in local culture could achieve remarkable commercial success without relying on established stars.

Long before its National Award triumph, Committee Kurrollu had built an extraordinary record of recognition across prestigious award platforms. The film won Best Feature Film on National Integration, Communal Harmony and Social Uplift of Depressed Classes and Best Debut Director for  Yadhu Vamsee at the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards 2024. It continued its winning journey internationally at the Gulf Academy Movie Awards (GAMA) 2025 in Dubai, where Niharika Konidela was honoured as Best Debut Producer and  Yadhu Vamsee received Best Debut Director.

The accolades continued at the SIIMA Awards 2025, where Niharika Konidela won Best Debutant Producer (Telugu) while Sandeep Saroj received Best Debutant Actor (Telugu). The film further earned national recognition when  Yadhu Vamsee was nominated for Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Most recently, at the 70th Filmfare Awards South, the film secured two major honours with Best Debut Director for Yadhu Vamsi and Best Debut Male for Sandeep Saroj.

With its triumph at the 72nd National Film Awards, Committee Kurrollu has completed an extraordinary journey from a modest debut production to one of the most celebrated Telugu films of recent years. మెగా డాట‌ర్ నిహారిక కొణిదెల‌ నిర్మాత‌గా మారి రూపొందించిన తొలి తెలుగు చిత్రం ‘క‌మిటీ కుర్రోళ్ళు’. పింక్ ఎలిఫెంట్ పిక్చ‌ర్స్‌, శ్రీ రాధ దామోద‌ర్ స్టూడియోస్ బ్యాన‌ర్స్‌పై ప‌ద్మ‌జ కొణిదెల‌, జ‌య‌ల‌క్ష్మి అడ‌పాక ఈ సినిమాను నిర్మించారు. వైవిధ్య‌మైన క‌థాంశంతో య‌దు వంశీ ఈ సినిమాను తెర‌కెక్కించారు. ఇటు ప్రేక్ష‌కుల ఆద‌ర‌ణ‌తో పాటు విమ‌ర్శ‌కుల ప్ర‌శంస‌లను అందుకున్న ఈ చిత్రం బాక్సాఫీస్‌తో పాటు అవార్డుల రేసులోనూ స‌త్తా చాటుతోంది. శ‌నివారం (జూలై 18) రోజున భార‌త ప్ర‌భుత్వం ప్ర‌క‌టించిన 72వ జాతీయ చ‌ల‌న చిత్ర అవార్డుల్లో క‌మిటీ కుర్రోళ్లు సినిమా రెండు అవార్డుల‌ను సొంతం చేసుకుంది. తెలుగులో జాతీయ ఉత్త‌మ చిత్రంగా నిల‌వ‌టంతో పాటు మేక‌ప్ కేట‌గిరిలో (పి.ర‌వికుమార్‌) ఈ సినిమా అవార్డును ద‌క్కించుకుంది.

డిఫ‌రెంట్ కంటెంట్‌తో పాటు 16 మంది నూత‌న న‌టీన‌టుల‌ను ప‌రిచ‌యం చేయ‌టంలోనూ ఈ సినిమా త‌న ప్ర‌త్యేక‌త‌ను చాటుకుంది. ఈ సినిమాలో న‌టించిన న‌టీన‌టులంద‌రికీ మంచి గుర్తింపు ద‌క్క‌టంతో పాటు అంద‌రూ ఇప్పుడు ఇండ‌స్ట్రీలో బిజీగా సినిమాల‌ను చేస్తున్నారు. రూ.9 కోట్ల‌తో రూపొందిన ‘క‌మిటీ కుర్రోళ్ళు’ బాక్సాఫీస్ ద‌గ్గ‌ర క‌లెక్ష‌న్స్ రూపంలో స‌త్తా చాటింది. థియేట్రిక‌ల్‌గా రూ.18.5 కోట్లు గ్రాస్ వ‌సూళ్ల‌ను సాధించిన ఈ చిత్రం నాన్ థియేట్రిక‌ల్ రైట్స్‌తో రూ.6 కోట్ల‌ను ద‌క్కించుకుని మొత్తంగా రూ.24.5 కోట్ల‌ను రాబ‌ట్టిన చిత్రంగా సినీ ఇండ‌స్ట్రీ దృష్టిని ఆక‌ర్షించింది.
