Raju Weds Rambai will be memorable movie for audiences – Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi

The movie “Raju Weds Rambai,” starring Akhil and Tejaswi, is being presented to audiences by ETV Win Originals. It is produced by Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi under the banners of Dolamukhi Subaltern Films and Monsoon Tales, and is presented by Dr. Nageswara Rao Poojari. The film is directed by Saailu Kaampati. “Raju Weds Rambai” will have its grand theatrical release on November 21st under the banners of Vamsi Nandipati Entertainment and Bunny Vas Works. In a recent interview, the producers Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi shared the highlights of the film.

Producer Venu Udugula said
The script for “Raju Weds Rambai” is based on a real incident that occurred between Khammam and Warangal districts. The director, Sailu, used to work with me and one day narrated this story to me. I was deeply moved when I heard it. While we have heard of honor killings and seen them happen in various ways, such an atrocity had never occurred in any love story before, which made this story stand out. Although the film is based on a real incident, the director crafted the script with mainstream appeal in mind. The movie is entertaining.

I felt that only by producing this film could justice be done, so I became the producer. At that time, ETV asked me if I had any projects they could associate with. I told them about “Raju Weds Rambai,” and they agreed to support the film. Later, reputed producers and distributors like Vamsi Nandipati and Bunny Vaas joined us. With their collaboration, the film is reaching audiences effectively.

In the trailer, we showed the hero intervening in a situation concerning the heroine. Even though the film is based on a real incident, the drama is necessary for the cinematic experience. The movie does not have a tragic ending; audiences will leave the theater with a positive feeling. We hope that some parents, after watching a movie like “Raju Weds Rambai,” may think positively about their daughters’ love lives.

The film does not mention the actual village or the names of the real-life individuals involved. Suresh Bobbili and I have been friends since struggling in the industry. I felt that only Suresh Bobbili could deliver good music for such a raw and rustic script. My previous film “Virata Parvam” was also based on real events, and while we could openly discuss its background, we cannot reveal the details of this real-life incident publicly.

While the hero, Akhil, was finalized quickly, we had to search extensively for the heroine. Since it is a local, rooted story, we wanted a Telugu actress, and we also thought it would encourage local talent. When we saw Tejaswi’s profile, we immediately finalized her. We conducted workshops with the lead actors and local artists in the village. Akhil and Tejaswi performed naturally in their roles. For the heroine’s father Venkanna’s role, auditions brought Chaitanya. The director mentioned that he looked like a foreigner, which suited the character. Chaitanya brought a unique vibe to the role, and though he was working a corporate job in the US, his passion for acting brought him to Hyderabad for the audition. He has become one of the recognized talents in the industry. Only later did we learn that he is the hero Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s brother.

Movies like “Baby,” “7G Brundavan Colony,” “Sairat,” “Premisthe,” and now “Raju Weds Rambai” will remain memorable for audiences. The film makes viewers reflect. I became a producer not just for the sake of producing, but to ensure a meaningful concept or story reaches audiences effectively. Becoming a producer also taught me the struggles of production. I have ideas for adapting Keshavareddy’s writings into a series, and I will direct a movie under the UV Films banner, with the hero yet to be announced.

Producer Rahul Mopidevi said:
A real-life love story incident took place 15 years ago, and the couple was laid to rest in that area. Everyone talks about it. Our director Sailu, being from the same region, learned about the incident and used it as a backdrop, adding dramatic elements to create a cinematic experience in “Raju Weds Rambai.”

We shot the film in the actual village where the incident happened. There was no cell phone signal, and we traveled 35 km daily from a nearby hotel for shooting. Some villagers were cast in small roles and trained through acting workshops. The director was meticulous about every detail of the filmmaking process.

Akhil, playing Raju, is a boy from Warangal, and the Telangana accent was not an issue for him. Tejaswi, an Andhra Pradesh girl, delivered her dialogues perfectly in the Telangana accent. Both acted superbly as Raju and Rambai. The team worked hard in a remote village during the rainy season, dealing with floods and challenges daily. Once, a bridge collapsed, and the 80-member crew had to stay in the village overnight.

Having experience in television production made working on this film easier. Currently, the movie is being released across the two Telugu states.

– ఖమ్మం, వరంగల్ జిల్లాల మధ్య జరిగిన ఓ వాస్తవ ఘటన ఆధారగా దర్శకుడు సాయిలు “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి” సినిమాకు స్క్రిప్ట్ చేశాడు. అతను నా దగ్గర వర్క్ చేస్తుండేవాడు. ఒకరోజు ఈ కథ నాకు నెరేట్ చేశాడు. వినగానే నన్ను కలచివేసింది. పరువు హత్యల గురించి మనం విన్నాం, ఇంకొన్ని విధాలుగా పరువు హత్య ఘటనలు జరగడం చూశాం. కానీ ఇలాంటి దుర్మార్గం ఏ ప్రేమకథలోనూ జరగలేదు అనిపించింది. ఇది వాస్తవ ఘటన నేపథ్యంగా సాగే సినిమా అయినా దర్శకుడు మెయిన్ స్ట్రీమ్ అప్పీల్ ఉండేలా స్క్రిప్ట్ రెడీ చేసుకున్నాడు. సినిమా ఎంటర్ టైనింగ్ గా ఉంటుంది.

– ఈ సినిమాకు నేను ప్రొడ్యూసర్ అయితేనే న్యాయం జరుగుతుంది అనిపించింది ప్రొడ్యూసర్ గా మారాను. అప్పటికే ఈటీవీ వాళ్లు నన్ను ఏదైనా ప్రాజెక్ట్ ఉంటే అసోసియేట్ కమ్మని అడిగారు. నేను “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి” మూవీ గురించి చెప్పాను. వాళ్లు ఈ సినిమా చేస్తామంటూ ముందుకు వచ్చారు. ఆ తర్వాత వంశీ నందిపాటి, బన్నీవాస్ లాంటి రెప్యుటెడ్ ప్రొడ్యూసర్స్, డిస్ట్రిబ్యూటర్స్ మా మూవీతో అసోసియేట్ అయ్యారు. వీళ్లంతా కలిసి చేతులు కలపడం వల్ల మా సినిమా ప్రేక్షకుల దగ్గరకు సరైన విధంగా రీచ్ అవుతోంది.

– ఈ సినిమా ట్రైలర్ లో అమ్మాయిపై హీరో చేయి చేసుకోవడం చూపించాం. వాస్తవ ఘటన ఆధారంగా సినిమా చేసినా, మూవీలో డ్రామా లేకుంటే ప్రేక్షకులకు సినిమాటిక్ ఫీల్ కలగదు. ఈ మూవీలో విషాధకరమైన ముగింపు ఉండదు. ఒక మంచి ఫీల్ తో థియేటర్స్ నుంచి ఆడియెన్స్ బయటకు వస్తారు. “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి” లాంటి సినిమా చూసి కొందరైనా అమ్మాయిల తండ్రులు ఆమె ప్రేమ విషయంలో పాజిటివ్ గా ఆలోచిస్తారని నమ్ముతున్నాం.

– సినిమాలో ఎక్కడా ఈ ఘటన జరిగిన ఊరు పేరు, బాధితులైన ఆ వ్యక్తుల పేర్లు చెప్పడం లేదు. సురేష్ బొబ్బిలి, నేను, మిట్టపల్లి సురేందర్ ఇండస్ట్రీలో స్ట్రగుల్స్ పడుతున్నప్పటి నుంచి స్నేహితులం. సురేష్ బొబ్బిలి అయితేనే ఇలాంటి రా అండ్ రస్టిక్ స్క్రిప్ట్ కు మంచి మ్యూజిక్ ఇవ్వగలడు అనిపించింది. నేను రూపొందించిన విరాటపర్వం సినిమా కూడా వాస్తవ ఘటనల నేపథ్యంగానే సాగుతుంది. అయితే ఆ సినిమాకు ఏం జరిగిందో ఓపెన్ గా చెప్పగలం. వారి కుటుంబ సభ్యులు కూడా మా అమ్మాయికి అన్యాయం జరిగిందని బయటకు వచ్చి మాట్లాడారు. కానీ ఈ ఘటన గురించి ఓపెన్ గా మాట్లాడుకోలేం.

– ఈ సినిమాకు హీరో అఖిల్ త్వరగానే దొరికాడు కానీ అమ్మాయి విషయంలో చాలా సెర్చ్ చేయాల్సివచ్చింది. ఇది లోకల్, రూటెడ్ స్టోరీ కాబట్టి తెలుగు అమ్మాయినే తీసుకోవాలి అనుకున్నాం, పైగా తెలుగు అమ్మాయిని ఎంకరేజ్ చేసినట్లు ఉంటుందని భావించాం. ఒక రోజు తేజస్వినీ ప్రొఫైల్ చూసి వెంటనే ఓకే చేశాం. ఆ తర్వాత ఈ ఇద్దరితో వర్క్ షాప్స్ చేయించాం. ఆ ఊరికి వెళ్లి లోకల్ ఆర్టిస్టులతో కలిపి వర్క్ షాప్స్ చేశాం. అఖిల్, తేజస్వినీ తమ పాత్రల్లో ఎంతో సహజంగా నటించారు. హీరోయిన్ తండ్రి వెంకన్న పాత్ర కోసం ఆడిషన్ చేస్తే చైతన్య వచ్చాడు. అతను ఎవరు అనేది మాకు ముందుగా తెలియదు. చూస్తే ఫారినర్ లా ఉన్నాడు మన క్యారెక్టర్ కు సెట్ కాడు అని డైరెక్టర్ సాయిలు నాతో అన్నాడు. చైతన్యలో ఒక సైక్ లుక్ కనిపించింది. అతని ప్రవర్తన కూడా కొత్తగా ఉంది. ఇతను వెంకన్న క్యారెక్టర్ కు బాగుంటాడు ఆడిషన్ చేయి అని డైరెక్టర్ తో చెప్పాను. ఆడిషన్ చేసి ఓకే అని సాయిలు చెప్పాడు. చైతన్య అమెరికాలో పెద్ద ఉద్యోగం చేస్తున్నాడు. నటన మీద ప్యాషన్ తో యూఎస్ నుంచి హైదరాబాద్ కు మా ఆడిషన్ కోసం తిరిగేవాడు. ఇండస్ట్రీలో ఉన్న అతి కొద్దిమంది మంచి నటుల్లో చైతన్య ఒకరిగా గుర్తింపు దక్కించుకున్నాడు. అతన్ని సెలెక్ట్ చేశాక తెలిసింది హీరో సిద్ధు జొన్నలగడ్డ బ్రదర్ అని.

– బేబి, 7జీ బృందావన్ కాలనీ, సైరత్, ప్రేమిస్తేలా “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి” మూవీ ప్రేక్షకులకు గుర్తుండిపోతుంది. సినిమా చూసిన ప్రతి ఒక్కరినీ ఆలోచింపజేస్తుంది. నేను ప్రొడ్యూసర్ గా చేయాలని కాదు ఏదైనా మంచి కాన్సెప్ట్, పర్పస్ ఫుల్ కథ దొరికితే దాన్ని ప్రేక్షకులకు సరైన విధంగా చేర్చాలనే ప్రయత్నంలో నిర్మాతగా మారాను. నిర్మాతగా మారాక ప్రొడక్షన్ లో ఉన్న స్ట్రగుల్స్ తెలిశాయి. నేను చదివిన నవలల్లో అంటరాని వసంతం, రచయిత కేశవరెడ్డి రచనల్ని సిరీస్ లా చేస్తే బాగుంటుందనే ఆలోచన ఉంది. యూవీ సంస్థలో నా దర్శకత్వంలో మూవీ ఉంటుంది. హీరో ఎవరు అనేది వాళ్లు అనౌన్స్ చేస్తారు.

– ఓ ప్రేమ జంట జీవితంలో జరిగిన వాస్తవ ఘటన 15 ఏళ్లుగా అక్కడే సమాధి చేయబడింది. ఆ ఘటన గురించి అందరూ మాట్లాడుకుంటూ ఉంటారు. మా డైరెక్టర్ సాయిలు అదే ప్రాంతానికి చెందినవాడు కాబట్టి, ఆ ఘటన గురించి తెలుసుకుని, ఆ నేపథ్యంతోనే మంచి డ్రామా యాడ్ చేసి అందరూ థియేట్రికల్ గా చూసేలా “రాజు వెడ్స్ రాంబాయి” సినిమాను రూపొందించాడు.

ఘటన జరిగిన ప్రాంతంలోనే సినిమా షూటింగ్ జరిపాం. అక్కడ సెల్ సిగ్నల్స్ కూడా ఉండేవి కావు. 35 కిలోమీటర్ల దూరంలో ఉన్న హోటల్ నుంచి రోజూ ఆ ఊరికి వెళ్లి వస్తూ షూటింగ్ చేశాం. ఆ గ్రామంలోని వారినే కొందరిని చిన్న చిన్న పాత్రలకు తీసుకున్నాం. వారికి యాక్టింగ్ లో వర్క్ షాప్స్ పెట్టాం. మా డైరెక్టర్ సినిమా మేకింగ్ లో ప్రతి చిన్న డీటెయిల్ విషయంలో క్లారిటీగా ఉన్నాడు.

– రాజు క్యారెక్టర్ చేసిన అఖిల్ వరంగల్ అబ్బాయి తనకు తెలంగాణ యాస ప్రాబ్లమ్ కాదు, తేజస్వినీ ఏపీ అమ్మాయి, కానీ తెలంగాణ యాసలో డైలాగ్స్ పర్పెక్ట్ గా చెప్పింది. రాజు రాంబాయిగా వీళ్లద్దరు అద్భుతంగా నటించారు. ఈ సినిమా షూటింగ్ కోసం టీమ్ చాలా కష్టపడింది. మారుమూల గ్రామంలో షూటింగ్ చేశాం. అది వర్షాకాలం కాబట్టి వర్షాలు, వరదలు వచ్చేవి. రోజుకో ప్రాబ్లమ్ ఎదురయ్యేది. కానీ షూటింగ్ బాగా వస్తుందనే ఒకే ఒక విషయం మమ్మల్ని సంతృప్తి పడేలా చేసేది. ఒకరోజు బ్రిడ్జి కొట్టుకుపోయింది. 80 మంది యూనిట్ అంతా ఆ రాత్రి ఊరిలోనే ఉండిపోవాల్సివచ్చింది.

టెలివిజన్ లో ప్రొడక్షన్ చేసిన అనుభవంతో ఈ మూవీకి వర్క్ చేయడం సులువైంది. మా సినిమాను ప్రస్తుతం రెండు తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లోనే విడుదల చేస్తున్నాం.
