Carmeni Selvan is a film that gives hope to those struggling with debt – Ram Chakri

‘Carmeni Selvan’ is a bilingual film made in Telugu and Tamil under the Pathway Productions banner, produced by Arun Rangarajulu and directed by Ram Chakri. Versatile actor Samuthirakani plays the lead role, while Gautham Vasudev Menon appears in a key role. The film also stars Lakshmi Priya, Abhinaya, Karthik Kumar, Badava Gopi, Kothandam, Karan Chakravarthi, Shankara Narayanan V, and Haritha Parakod in important roles. The movie is set for a grand theatrical release on April 3 in both Telugu and Tamil, distributed by PVR INOX Pictures.

On this occasion, director Ram Chakri shared his thoughts:

“I watched ‘Arya’ as my first Telugu film. After that, I watched ‘Anand’ and ‘Godavari.’ At that time, I understood one thing very clearly, the Telugu film industry beautifully embraces two very different storytelling styles. On one side, there are energetic, commercial films like ‘Arya,’ and on the other, there are realistic, heart-touching films like ‘Anand’ and ‘Godavari’ by Sekhar Kammula. That balance inspired me a lot.

I never got the opportunity to work directly with Sekhar Kammula garu, but I consider him my teacher and mentor. I learned a great deal by watching his films. I also thank my directing mentor K. V. Guhan garu. Both of them have been major sources of inspiration for me.

Coming to ‘Carmeni Selvan,’ the film is based on middle-class life. Everyone who watches it will connect with the story. Especially for those who are struggling with debt, this film will give them courage. Debt is quite common in middle-class families, and we are showing how it affects relationships within the family and the decisions they make. The film is very realistic.

Samuthirakani garu has brought out every shade of his character brilliantly. As a middle-class husband and father, he has delivered a deeply emotional performance. Along with him, Gautham Menon garu, Lakshmi Priya, and Abhinaya have also delivered performances that will impress the audience.

Our technical team has been very supportive. When it comes to music, we are introducing a new concept for this film. Under the title ‘Music as a Service,’ our music director Ramanujan and his team worked collaboratively. They believe music is not just the work of a composer or singers, but a collective effort involving instrumentalists, sound engineers, mixing teams, and many other technicians. Through this concept, our goal is to give credit and share revenue with everyone who contributed to each song. This is our small effort to recognize the real heroes behind the music.

Our DOP Yuvaraj Dakshan and editor Jagan have great experience. When you watch the film in theaters, you will understand how grandly we have presented the story visually.

Through this film, I want to convey an important message. Many elders in families are working abroad while their families stay here. I sincerely request them to return and spend time with their families at least once or twice a year. This film will connect strongly with every middle-class family.”

‘‘నేను తెలుగులో చూసిన మొదటి సినిమా ‘ఆర్య’. ఆ తర్వాత ఆనంద్, గోదావరి మూవీస్ చూశా.  అప్పుడు నాకు ఒక విషయం బాగా అర్థమైంది.  తెలుగు సినిమా ఇండస్ట్రీ రెండు భిన్నమైన కథల శైలులను ఎంతో అద్భుతంగా స్వీకరిస్తుంది. ఒక వైపు ఆర్య లాంటి ఎనర్జిటిక్, కమర్షియల్ సినిమాలు ఉంటే, మరో వైపు శేఖర్ కమ్ముల గారి ఆనంద్, గోదావరి లాంటి హృదయాన్ని తాకే రియలిస్టిక్ కథలు ఉంటాయి. ఆ బ్యాలెన్స్ నాకు చాలా ఇన్‌స్పిరేషన్ ఇచ్చింది. నేను శేఖర్ కమ్ముల గారితో నేరుగా పని చేసే అవకాశం రాలేదు. అయినప్పటికీ, ఆయనను నా గురువు, మెంటర్‌గా భావిస్తాను. ఆయన సినిమాలను చూస్తూ ఎంతో  నేర్చుకున్నాను. అలాగే నా  దర్శక గురువు  కె.వి. గుహన్ గారికి కూడా నా ధన్యవాదాలు. ఈ ఇద్దరూ నాకు ఇన్‌స్పిరేషన్‌గా నిలిచారు. ఇక ‘కార్మేని సెల్వం’ విషయానికొస్తే..  ఈ సినిమా మధ్య తరగతి జీవితంపై ఆధారపడి ఉంటుంది. సినిమా చూసిన  ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ  కథతో కనెక్ట్ అవుతారు.  ముఖ్యంగా అప్పుల సమస్యతో బాధపడుతున్న వారికి ఈ సినిమా ఒక ధైర్యాన్ని ఇస్తుంది. మధ్య తరగతి కుటుంబాల్లో అప్పులు అనేవి కామన్‌గా ఉంటాయి. వాటి కారణంగా కుటుంబంలోని సంబంధాలు, వారు తీసుకునే నిర్ణయాలు ఎలా ప్రభావితం చేస్తాయనేది ఇందులో చూపించబోతున్నాం. చాలా రియలిస్టిక్‌గా మూవీ ఉంటుంది.   సముద్రఖని గారు ఆయన పాత్రలోని ప్రతి షేడ్‌ను  అద్భుతంగా పండించారు. మధ్యతరగతి భర్తగా, తండ్రిగా తనదైన ఎమోషన్‌ను పండించారు.   ఆయనతోపాటు గౌతమ్ మీనన్ గారు, లక్ష్మీ ప్రియా,  అభినయ పాత్రలు ప్రేక్షకులను ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి.  మా టెక్నికల్ టీమ్ కూడా ఎంతో సపోర్ట్‌ చేసింది. మ్యూజిక్ విషయానికొస్తే.. ఈ సినిమా కోసం మేము ఒక కొత్త కాన్సెప్ట్ తీసుకొస్తున్నాం .  మ్యూజిక్ యాజ్ ఎ సర్వీస్ పేరుతో  మా మ్యూజిక్ డైరెక్టర్ రామానుజన్ టీమ్ వర్క్ చేశారు. సంగీతం అనేది కేవలం మ్యూజిక్ డైరెక్టర్ లేదా సింగర్స్‌దే కాదు.. ఇన్‌స్ట్రుమెంటలిస్టులు, సౌండ్ ఇంజినీర్లు, మిక్సింగ్ టీమ్, ఇంకా ఎంతో మంది టెక్నీషియన్లు కలిసి చేసే పనిగా వారు భావించారు.  ఈ కాన్సెప్ట్ ద్వారా ప్రతి పాటకు పని చేసిన అందరికీ క్రెడిట్ ఇవ్వడం, అలాగే రెవెన్యూ షేర్ చేయడం మా లక్ష్యం. ఇది మ్యూజిక్ వెనుక ఉన్న అసలు హీరోలకు గుర్తింపు ఇవ్వడానికి మా చిన్న ప్రయత్నం. మా డీఓపీ యువరాజ్ దక్షణ్, ఎడిటర్ జగన్‌లకు ఎంతో అనుభవం ఉంది.  థియేటర్‌లో ఈ సినిమా విజువల్స్ చూస్తే, కథను ఎంత గ్రాండ్‌గా తీసుకెళ్లామో అర్థమవుతుంది. ఇక  మా ప్రొడ్యూసర్ అరుణ్ రంగరాజులు  గారికి ప్రత్యేక  ధన్యవాదాలు తెలియజేస్తున్నా. ఈ కథపై నమ్మకం ఉంచి, మంచి క్వాలిటీతో సినిమా చేయడానికి మాకు సహకరించారు. ఈ సినిమా ద్వారా ఒక ముఖ్యమైన విషయం చెప్పాలనుకున్నా. కుటుంబంలోని పెద్దలు కొందరు విదేశాల్లో జీవనోపాధి కొనసాగిస్తున్నారు.  కానీ వారి కుటుంబాలు ఇక్కడే ఉన్నాయి. ఏడాదికి కనీసం ఒకట్రెండు సార్లు అయినా  వారు తిరిగి వచ్చి తమ కుటుంబాలతో కలవాలని నేను హృదయపూర్వకంగా కోరుకుంటున్నా. ప్రతి మిడిల్ క్లాస్ ఫ్యామిలీకు ఈ చిత్రం బాగా కనెక్ట్ అవుతుంది’’.
