Comrade Kalyan Trailer Promises A Fun-Filled, Yet Revolutionary Period Drama

King Of Entertainment Sree Vishnu is coming up with Comrade Kalyan that brings together period flavour, romance, comedy, emotion and a revolutionary backdrop. Directed by Janakiram Marella and presented by Kona Venkat, the film is produced by Venkata Krishna Karnati and Seetha Karnati under Skanda Vahana Motion Pictures LLP. The movie is slated for a theatrical release on October 9th, and following the curiosity generated by its glimpse, teaser and songs, the makers have now released its theatrical trailer.

Kalyan owns a local theatre, while his mother is a die-hard fan of Nandamuri Balakrishna. His otherwise simple and cheerful life takes an interesting turn when he falls in love with an Odia girl, but the language barrier becomes a major hurdle in their relationship. The biggest twist arrives when the police start hunting for Kalyan, who is revealed to be a most-wanted Naxalite. In a daring move, Kalyan and his gang kidnap a powerful politician, seeking the release of their Naxalite comrades from prison. This unexpected turn gives the story a serious and intriguing dimension, especially considering its otherwise light-hearted setup.

The period setting adds authenticity to the narrative, which unfolds along the Andhra-Odisha border in 1992. Director Janakiram Marella strikes an interesting balance between humour, romance and the action surrounding the Naxalite-police conflict. The first half of the trailer is packed with fun-filled and light-hearted moments, while the narrative gradually takes a serious turn in the latter half. However, the trailer concludes on a humorous note, with Kalyan hilariously shooting at the wrong bird after his intended target gets away.

It is Sree Vishnu’s show all the way. From the very beginning, he commands the screen with his impeccable comic timing and effortless performance. His distinctive dialogue delivery, particularly his tendency to swallow words, becomes a major source of humour. Even when his character appears serious during the Naxalite sequences, Sree Vishnu manages to retain the film’s inherent comic flavour.

Mahima Nambiar brings freshness and breeziness to the role of the Odia girl, while her chemistry with Sree Vishnu makes the love track look appealing. Radhika Sarathkumar adds another layer of humour as his mother and an ardent Balakrishna fan. Satya, Sudarshan and the rest of the gang promise plenty of laughs, while Shine Tom Chacko brings intensity to his role as a police officer hailing from Kerala. Upendra Limaye also makes his presence felt in a significant character.

The visual treatment is another major strength of Comrade Kalyan. Sai Sriram’s cinematography captures the rural landscape of the Andhra-Odisha border beautifully, with the lush greenery and natural surroundings lending authenticity to the 1992 setting. Vijay Bulganin’s background score complements the comic portions while effectively creating tension during the Naxalite sequences. Chota K Prasad’s editing keeps the trailer engaging and well-paced, while the production design and overall technical presentation look polished.

The trailer effectively showcases the film’s quirky humour while hinting at a more serious conflict underneath. The trailer certainly succeeds in raising expectations for the movie.
