I’m Sure Rudravanam PSWill Be a Hit – Harish Shankar
A disturbing crime can be the beginning of a much larger mystery, where every clue raises new questions and the truth lies buried beneath layers of suspicion. Rudravanam PS, a seven-episode Telugu crime thriller directed by Sasidhar Munnangi and written by Taj Syed, stars Naresh Agastya as SI Sivakumar, an honest police officer drawn into an investigation that reaches beyond the apparent facts of a case. A headless corpse and a missing man set the story in motion, leading towards a web of power, prejudice and long-buried secrets in Rudravanam. The series brings together an ensemble cast and a creative team seeking to build an investigative thriller around the pursuit of truth. The Grand Pre-Release Event brought the cast, crew and prominent industry guests together to discuss the making of the series, their experiences on set and their expectations ahead of its premiere on ZEE5 Telugu on 30 October 2026.
Addressing the gathering, the cast and crew reflected on the opportunities the series offered them, the effort behind its production, the creative possibilities of OTT storytelling and the anticipation surrounding its release.
Reflecting on the opportunity to play a substantial character and acknowledging the encouragement he received from the lead actor and senior performers, actor Narayana Swamy said, Thank you to Harsha for this opportunity, and to our producers, director and the entire direction team, including Poorna, Avinash and Madhu. Most importantly, I want to thank our hero, who encouraged me throughout the process. Though my role in the first two episodes is small, it has turned out very well, and the upcoming episodes will be excellent. Senior actors like Banerjee, Raja Ravindra and Reddy, along with the rest of the team, were incredibly supportive. This is the first time I have been entrusted with such a substantial character, and I am deeply grateful. Thank you all.
Speaking candidly about her first experience addressing a gathering of this kind, actress Sugali Siloni said, Hi everyone. This is my first time speaking like this, so I have a bit of stage fright, but I will do my best. I want to thank our director, Shashi, and co-director Poorna for giving me this opportunity. I am also grateful to my mentor, Vedavyas, and Nataraj sir, who have constantly supported, motivated and guided me. Finally, my thanks to producer Ramesh sir, our hero and everyone involved in the project. Thank you for this opportunity.
Recalling his longstanding friendship with producer Ramesh Puppala and expressing his hope that the project would open new doors for its cast, actor Raja Ravindra said, Ramesh Puppala, the producer of Rudravanam PS, is a very close friend. I worked as an executive producer on his film Mirapakay, directed by Harish Shankar, who is here with us today. It is wonderful to see Puppala producing a film again after such a long time. Vivek Kuchibhotla has also been my friend since before he entered the industry, and this is their first collaboration. I sincerely hope it becomes a super duper hit and brings a great break to all the actors. All the best to our director, Shashi. Thank you.
Speaking about the determination to bring Rudravanam PS to life and his return to the industry after a long gap, producer Ramesh Puppala said, When ZEE invited us to take on Rudravanam PS, we were determined to execute it with immense passion. With the encouragement of Vivek, Madam and everyone at Sri Chakra Films, we worked closely to deliver a strong output. Our director has shot the project wonderfully, and the cinematography and music have also turned out exceptionally well. I thank the ZEE5 management, particularly Anuradha, Harsha and Kiranmayi, and my favourite director, Harish Shankar, for attending. His film was the reason I entered the industry, and I remain grateful to him. My thanks to Raja Ravindra, Banerjee, our hero Naresh Agastya, our heroine and the entire cast. After a long gap, I have returned to the industry, and Vivek Kuchibhotla’s cooperation and support made this possible. Thank you to all my friends in the media.
Reflecting on his association with the producers, the opportunities for creators in the OTT space and the craftsmanship he observed in the series, director Harish Shankar said, Good evening to all my friends in the press. We have been running into each other all week! After a long time, it is wonderful to see Ramesh Puppala at a movie-related event. He gave me my first blockbuster, and we will never forget that. Raja Ravindra was also a great support during that film, helping us bring it to life as we had envisioned. Thank you both. I have known Vivek Kuchibhotla for five or six years; he is like family and helped introduce me to Vishwa Prasad and People Media Factory. I wish this project great success, with Surya from the production side and Shashi from direction—and all the Navagrahas supporting them!
When I was an assistant director, the belief was that you had to work in cinema to learn the craft. Today, aspiring filmmakers can create their own content for YouTube, OTT platforms or satellite television. There are tremendous opportunities. Shows like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and Money Heist reached audiences across the world without their teams having to promote them in every city. If you have talent, it will reach people regardless of whether you make a film or a web series. Don’t become fixated on the format.
Vivek showed me this content on his laptop. I absolutely loved the photography, editing and performances. The way these elements have come together is a testament to the director’s brilliance; Shashi has done a wonderful job, and his craftsmanship is clearly visible. The cinematography looks as though it belongs on the big screen. I assumed it was shot by a very senior cameraman, but the cinematographer is only 32. The direction team is young, and having Raja Ravindra alongside them is a great strength. The packed venue today also shows how much the industry values Vivek and his work. He is constantly discussing films and web series, and that passion is evident.
I hope Vivek continues making films and Suryakanthi ma’am stays busy with OTT series. Ramesh Puppala, you should not stop with web series; revive Yellow Flowers and make films again. You gave me my entry, and I hope your re-entry is with a film alongside me. Thank you for inviting me.
Commenting on the first two episodes and the way the story, performances, music, cinematography and production values came together, senior actor Banerjee said, We have just watched the first two episodes, and they are absolutely amazing. I congratulate the entire team of Rudravanam. The story, direction, acting, music, cinematography and production values have all fallen perfectly into place. When these elements align so well, a project is bound to go places. I hope this brings immense success to producers Vivek and Ramesh and leads to many more web series. All the very best to the team.
Speaking about the seven-episode format and his ambition to deliver a compelling Telugu crime thriller, director Sasidhar Munnangi said, Thank you to the press and media for attending. Rudravanam is a seven-episode crime thriller, and I believe it will be one of the strongest thrillers produced in Telugu. Every episode, right up to its final beat, is designed to keep viewers hooked. Please support the series when it premieres on ZEE5 on October 30. My gratitude to producers Kranthi, Vivek and Ramesh, and to the ZEE5 team, especially Harsha and Kiranmayi, for helping us meet demanding deadlines. The cast and crew worked tirelessly, and I thank my cinematographer, music director, editor and writer Syed, who could not be here today. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
Appreciating ZEE5’s support and the importance of authenticity in shaping her character, actress Shravani Reddy said, Thank you to the media, and congratulations to ZEE5 for backing this project. I am grateful to producers Ramesh sir, Vivek and Suryakanthi ma’am, and to director Shashi for casting me in Rudravanam PS. Though Naresh and I shot together only for a few days, it was a great experience. I also want to thank senior actor Banerjee and our DOP, Ashkar. When I asked him to make me look glamorous, he insisted that my appearance remain authentic to the scene and de-glammed me for the story. I appreciate that commitment. Rudravanam PS is a seven-episode crime thriller premiering on ZEE5 Telugu on October 30. Please watch and support us.
Expressing confidence that the series would keep viewers invested from one episode to the next, producer Dr. Suryakanthi said, Rudravanam PS is a great thriller. You will feel compelled to binge-watch every episode without wanting to pause. I thank the ZEE5 team—Anuradha, Lloyd, Harsha, Kiranmayi and Sandeep—for giving us this opportunity. The cast and crew have been wonderful, and none of this would have been possible without them. My thanks to our guest of honour, Harish Shankar, the fan pages, celebrity friends and media for supporting us. Please continue to support the series. Thank you.
Acknowledging ZEE5’s support, the cast’s commitment and the demanding schedule, producer Vivek Kuchibhotla said, A big thank you to the ZEE5 management—Anuradha, Kiranmayi and Sandeep—and to Harsha and Sai, who worked as part of our own team. I thank our hero and heroine as well. We put you through demanding schedules, with late-night shoots and early call times, yet you performed exceptionally well. We are confident that Rudravanam PS will be a highly successful series. Thank you.
Reflecting on his 12-year association with ZEE, his creative partnership with director Sasidhar Munnangi and the collaborative effort behind the series, Naresh Agastya said, My journey in the industry began with ZEE 12 years ago, when I did a small serial called Pasupu Kumkuma in 2014. Since then, I have worked on Paruvu, Vikatakavi and now Rudravanam PS. Thank you to ZEE and to our producers from Sri Chakra Movies and Yellow Flowers Pictures—Kranthi, Vivek and Ramesh—for choosing me.
Shashi and I have been travelling together creatively for two years, discussing many stories, and I hope we get to make more of them. He and Ashkar worked incredibly hard throughout this production, often without proper sleep. Pawan and our editor also delivered high-quality work in a short time.
I want to mention Shiva. When the trailer came out, I noticed his name appearing in the comments even more than mine. He has worked hard in the background, and I hope this series brings him recognition and better opportunities. Swami kept us relaxed on set, and Siloni performed very naturally despite this being her first time. Surya and Gangadhar are wonderful artists, and I hope to work with them again. Durga is talented too, even though this role gave him limited scope. Banerjee sir inspires me with the simplicity of his life, and I hope we work together again. Sravani also plays an important role: her character’s support helps my character solve the case.
The core idea of the series is captured in my character’s dialogue: ‘Just as much as a criminal wants to hide a crime, he wants to hide the truth behind it. And to uncover that, the police don’t need to use a baton every time.’ That is the essence of the characterization.
I hope you enjoyed the first two episodes. Rudravanam PS premieres on ZEE5 Telugu on October 30, and I request you all to watch it. I must also appreciate the child actor, who worked through demanding morning and night schedules and still gave a wonderful performance. Poorna sir took on so much stress that he looks five years older! And Ramesh sir often says he wants to become the Pankaj Tripathi of Telugu cinema. I hope he achieves that. Thank you, everyone.
The event then shifted to a quick Q and A with the media:
Q: Hi, Naresh Agastya sir. It’s good to see you. You seem to have become an unofficial brand ambassador for ZEE5. Whenever there is a new series from them, people automatically check if you are in it. Is that the case?
Naresh Agastya: You wouldn’t believe it, but I barely know anyone at ZEE. I am somewhat acquainted with Harsha now, but my involvement with ZEE5 is purely professional, working project to project. I don’t have any close associations, and I have never even met Anuradha ma’am personally. I suppose they just keep wanting to cast me!
Q: We have seen many police mystery thrillers on ZEE5 that have been very successful, right from Kuli Meka. We just watched the first two episodes of this series, and they did a great job building tension around a crime. But how is it going to be revealed? What makes this special as it goes forward?
Naresh Agastya: The main approach of this series is its realism. Compared to other Telugu crime thrillers, we intentionally avoided going overboard. The characterizations are grounded and reflect how people would actually behave in real life. I can confidently say that the climax will blow your mind.
Q: You are a very good actor and have delivered subtle, excellent performances in web series. You have also had a couple of blockbuster hits in feature films. Are you intentionally sticking to web series now instead of movies?
A — Naresh Agastya: Is Banerjee sir here? He just left. He always says something very true: It is not about what kind of work you do; if work comes your way, you just have to do it with dedication and hard work. That is the philosophy I follow.
Q: Raja Ravindra sir, you played an important police officer role in a recent movie. Are you playing a police officer in this series as well?
A — Raja Ravindra: No, I am not a police officer. Did you come in late? They just screened the first two episodes. I am playing an MLA.
Q: You are juggling web series, podcasts, and movies. How do you manage your time?
A — Raja Ravindra: I have more time than the Prime Minister!
Q: (To the Director) Can you tell us about Raja Ravindra’s character?
A — Sasidhar Munnangi: It is a very important character. Though his screen time is limited, it is a key role. Several crucial twists in the story revolve around his character.
Q: Raja Ravindra sir, can you elaborate on your MLA character?
A — Raja Ravindra: You probably didn’t see the episodes. It is a very powerful character. I even yell at the hero and torture him, demanding to know what happened to the case because my younger brother gets killed.
Q: Sir, your recent podcasts—like the ones with JD, Raghurama Krishna Raju, and Bandla Ganesh—have become very famous. People are watching them thoroughly because your deep industry knowledge and friendships bring out unknown facts. Can we expect a more controversial, surprising, or in-depth industry podcast from you?
A — Raja Ravindra: You will definitely see more, but I won’t do podcasts just to roast people. My goal is to highlight their positive points—how hard they struggled to reach the level where they are now sitting for a podcast. I want people to know their journey of hard work. My intention is not to just throw controversial questions at them based on what I read in the papers or saw on other YouTube channels.
Q: You have a great reputation as an artist. Why take up this podcasting duty as well?
A — Raja Ravindra: Because you guys (the media) aren’t doing your jobs properly! (Laughs) It’s an ocean; anyone can jump in. Just because I am doing it doesn’t mean much—thousands of people are doing it. It will keep happening.
Q: YouTube has been active since 2012, but you are starting now, almost 12 years later. It feels like someone asking, Why be born now instead of during the NTR and ANR era?
A — Raja Ravindra: Things happen when the time is right. You can’t ask, Why did you start now? You should have started then. That is not how it works.
Q: Naresh sir, a lot of people love your acting and want to see you on the big screen. Are you drifting away from mainstream cinema and the big screen audience because you are busy with OTT?
A — Naresh Agastya: That isn’t in our hands; it is in the hands of the big producers. If they offer roles, we do them. Frankly, I find OTT a bit safer. In theatrical releases, there are calculations like Does this actor have enough market? or If we invest this much, will we get it back? Those pressures don’t exist as much in OTT, so it feels more peaceful for me personally. Over this journey, I have realized that true talent is rare, while the obsession with market value dominates.
Q: Sir, there are rumors about a massive project you are working on, maybe shot in the Sahara Desert. Is that true?
A — Naresh Agastya: It is about 65% complete. We have to go back to the Sahara Desert for the rest of the shoot. Let’s talk about that personally later.
Q: Director sir, I observed great attention to detail in the first episode. When the police officers go out for lunch, none of them are wearing belts. What was the reason for that specific detailing?
A — Sasidhar Munnangi: There are certain realities in a police station during an investigative process. When adapting that for the screen, things often get overly commercialized. Our team wanted to avoid that and take an honest, realistic approach. For instance, when police go to a temple, they naturally remove their shoes and belts. We made sure that every casting choice followed this strict detailing.
Q: Banerjee sir, you have done many films, but people immediately recognize you for certain characters. What was the hook for you to take on this specific role?
A — Banerjee: Cinematic acting is quite different. In web series, there is more naturality. It might seem time-consuming, but the natural flow carries the emotions well. I have played many police roles, but the performance required for this character is very different. That is what I liked. When director Shashi approached me, I felt very happy. The future is OTT and digital entertainment, so I need to adapt and be here.
Q: Director sir, did you plan this as an OTT project from the script stage, or did you consider a theatrical release?
A — Sasidhar Munnangi: From the initial script level, it was a massive story. There was no clear endpoint for the character arcs, and a movie’s runtime wouldn’t have been sufficient. So, this was the right platform for the story.
Q: Raja Ravindra sir, is your MLA character connected to any real-life personality?
A — Raja Ravindra: No, there is no real-life connection. And I certainly don’t have the power of a real MLA!
Q: (To Harsha) Congratulations on your role as the New Content Head of ZEE5 Telugu. Is this your first series in this position?
A — Harsha: Thank you. Yes, it is.
Q: ZEE5 is producing many hit series right now. The trend recently is to shoot series with cinematic quality. Some platforms release them in theaters first and then bring them to OTT. Why are you restricting this high-quality content only to the platform? Why not take it to cinemas for a larger audience?
A — Harsha: It is about the mandate. We are currently mandated to create content specifically for TV and mobile screens. That restriction exists. However, if the audience receives it exceptionally well and there is potential for a wider reach, we will definitely explore theatrical options in the future.
Q: If you look at this year, Manjummel Boys was a massive hit on ZEE5, drawing in people who don’t usually watch movies. Since you are making content on that scale, why the hesitation to push the ZEE5 brand to a larger audience immediately?
A — Harsha: We will definitely address that moving forward. You will see a change in quality starting with Rudravanam. We delivered this in record time and on a limited budget. Thanks to the producers and the team—especially the assistant directors who worked around the clock—we achieved this quality. As content travels and these situations arise, we will adapt.
Q: Suryakanthi ma’am, congratulations. We usually see Vivek at the forefront of production. What made you step in as a producer for this series? Was it your decision or Vivek’s?
A — Dr. Suryakanthi: It was entirely Vivek’s decision.
Q: Is this your first time producing? How was the experience?
A — Dr. Suryakanthi: Working is not new to me. I have 20 years of experience working as a director in various companies within our business, and I also hold a doctorate in astrology. While the field is new, the act of working isn’t, and Vivek was there to guide me. I was on the set every single day, often the first one there.
Q: Field production is very stressful compared to an AC office—dealing with locations, artists, tight budgets, and schedules. How did you manage that stress?
A — Dr. Suryakanthi: The credit goes to Harsha, Naresh, and the whole team. They never made me feel stressed. Plus, Ramesh was there to handle most of the difficult situations.
Q: Ramesh sir, it is great to see the Yellow Flowers banner revived after giving blockbusters like Mirapakay. Why the long gap?
A — Ramesh Puppala: The gap was due to personal tragedies. A partner suddenly passed away during COVID, and then my main partner, R. R. Venkat, also passed away. That caused a significant delay. But even during the gap, we were constantly thinking about movies and listening to stories.
Q: Why choose a web series for your re-entry?
A — Ramesh Puppala: Vivek approached me after the gap, and his strong encouragement pushed me forward. Since OTT is the current trend, we decided to take web series production seriously alongside feature films.
Q: Banerjee sir, you are in the entertainment world where public opinions constantly shift—one day you are praised, the next day you are criticized. How do you remain so grounded and simple without taking on the stress of public commentary?
A — Banerjee: It is a very simple thing. Yes, we are in the public domain, but we are human beings first. Celebrities have the same feelings, emotions, and families as anyone else. If you don’t let it get to your head, you will stay grounded. I just want to be happy and healthy. If someone curses at me, it doesn’t become true just because they said it. It only affects me if I react to it and accept it. So, I just don’t react. Maybe it’s an inborn trait; God made me this way. Just do what you feel is right and keep it simple.
Q: Sravani ma’am, you remind us of a mini Anushka. There has been a gap since your earlier work. Will you continue staying in Bangalore or move here? Also, based on the first two episodes, your screen time seems limited. What hooked you to this series?
A — Sravani: There hasn’t been a gap; I am staying right here in Hyderabad and have recently done three projects that are slightly delayed for release. When the director narrated this story, I was constantly wondering what would happen next. Even though my character is small, it acts as a driving force. Just as Naresh mentioned, my role as a housewife provides strong support and strength to the investigation. She has a backstory and plays a key role, so I am very happy with it.
Q: Raja Ravindra sir, in the making video for the movie Paradise, you had a lot of screen time, but you barely appeared in the actual movie. What happened?
A — Raja Ravindra: That is the director’s choice in editing. You have to ask the director or Nani about that. I just do what I am told. Did you expect me to stay in the movie just because I made a separate Instagram reel?
Q: You recently tweeted something cryptic: There are many valuable things in a burning house. Was that an indirect dig at Paradise?
A — Raja Ravindra: I don’t need to take indirect digs at Paradise. A lot of things were happening at that time, and I just felt like posting it. I speak directly; if I had an issue, I would have named them directly.
Q: Harsha, with regional OTTs facing tough competition from international platforms, and ZEE5 having faced some quality dips in past regional content, how are you ensuring quality now?
A — Harsha: We are strictly focusing on technical aspects, visuals, and performances regardless of budget constraints. We are internally discussing how to compete with the big platforms on both quality and creative storytelling. Once you watch Rudravanam, the quality will speak for itself.
Q: Naresh, your recent series seem to maintain a high standard of quality. Do you put specific conditions on the OTT platforms before signing?
A — Naresh Agastya: No conditions. I’ve just been lucky that the teams have landed perfectly. I purposely select scripts that are simple and sensible. I don’t like over-the-top acting, and I would have to kill my conscience to do it, so I choose scripts that avoid that.
Q: Ramesh sir, has the production landscape and budgeting changed drastically over the last 5 to 6 years since you last produced?
A — Ramesh Puppala: Budgets definitely vary depending on the platform. Remunerations and casting costs have completely changed. However, thanks to ZEE5’s cooperation, and Harsha specifically guiding us on output daily, we delivered excellent technical quality within the budget they provided.
Q: In Mirapakay, the hero was a police officer. Now, this series is heavily focused on the police. Is that a coincidence?
A — Ramesh Puppala: It is a complete coincidence. When ZEE5 gave us this story, I immediately felt it would be a 100% success. Finding out the identity behind a headless body was a very intriguing hook for a suspense crime story.
Q: Raja Ravindra sir, your MLA character seems very aggressive, but the screen time is limited. How much impact does it have on the story?
A — Raja Ravindra: It has exactly the limited but strong impact that you saw. Back in the Mirapakay days, Harish Shankar wrote those aggressive roles incredibly well.
Q: Naresh, based on the two episodes, we see two crimes—the MLA’s brother and the headless body. Does the story just revolve around these two?
A — Naresh Agastya: No, it opens up into something much bigger. As you keep watching, every single episode will be shocking.
Q: Harsha, recently a lot of web series are centered around police stories. Is there a reason for this trend?
A — Harsha: It is not intentional. We have many scripts running in parallel. Sometimes projects get delayed due to scheduling or corrections. When a release slot opens up, whichever content is completely ready gets pushed forward. It just so happened that police stories landed back-to-back. I can assure you the next one will not be a police story.
Q: Raja Ravindra sir, you also work as a manager for many actors. There is a rumor that you neglect your own acting roles because you are so busy managing others. Is that true?
A — Raja Ravindra: Does the length of the characters I get suggest that? The management work is mostly done over the phone; I don’t have to physically go and water plants for them! It doesn’t interfere with my acting at all.
Q: There are rumors that you are entering Bigg Boss as a wildcard. Is that true?
A — Raja Ravindra: If I enter, everyone else will break the doors and run away!
With its investigative premise, layered mystery and ensemble cast, Rudravanam PS places the pursuit of truth at the centre of its seven-episode narrative. Led by Naresh Agastya as SI Sivakumar, the series features Banerjee as CI Venugopal, Shiva Alapati as ASI Madhav, Sugali Siloni as ASI Nirmala, Ramesh Konambhotla as Head Constable Sundar, Narayana Swamy as Constable Gangadhar, Shravani Reddy as Sravani, Charu Wakan as Anji and Preetei Sundar as Swarna.
Directed by Sasidhar Munnangi and written by Taj Syed, the series features cinematography by Ashkar Ali, editing by Madhav and production design by Ashish Tejapulala. Produced under the Sri Chakra Movies banner, Rudravanam PS brings together a creative team intent on building a crime thriller around the secrets concealed beneath an apparently straightforward investigation. With the cast and crew sharing their experiences at the Grand Pre-Release Event, the focus now shifts to the mystery itself and the questions SI Sivakumar must confront. Rudravanam PS premieres on ZEE5 Telugu on 30 October 2026.
