Tollywood Monopoly Row Escalates – O Andala Rakshasi Director Sends Final Legal Notices
Actor-director Sheraz Mehdi, known for O Andala Rakshasi, has intensified his legal battle against what he describes as nepotism, monopoly and the systematic sidelining of small films in the Telugu film industry.
Mehdi said he has issued final legal notices to several prominent figures associated with the Telugu film industry, including producer Dil Raju, producer Suresh Babu, Film Chamber vice-presidents Naga Vamsi and Bharat Bhushan, secretary Ashok Kumar, and treasurer Prasanna Kumar.
He also said final legal notices have been sent to PVR INOX representatives Ajay Bijli and manager Mahesh, as well as Asian Cinemas managing director Sunil Naraj and manager Prashanth.
Mehdi further said he has brought the matter to the attention of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, submitting details of his complaint and the legal notices to the Chief Minister’s office. He said he would pursue further legal action if there is no response.
‘Small Films Are Not Being Allowed to Survive’
Speaking about the difficulties faced by small films, Mehdi alleged that the existing system gives disproportionate importance to a handful of movies while leaving the majority without adequate theatrical opportunities.
“If 100 films are released, only two or three are selected and projected as hit films, big-budget films or successful films. What happens to the remaining 97 films? Who will care about them?” he questioned.
According to Mehdi, theatrical screens, publicity and business opportunities increasingly revolve around a limited number of films, leaving smaller productions with little opportunity to reach audiences.
He said the problem is not limited to his own film and that many small filmmakers, directors and actors are facing similar difficulties.
Calls for an Alternative Business Model for Small Films
Mehdi suggested that the industry should establish an alternative business ecosystem for small films so that they are not entirely dependent on the existing theatrical distribution structure.
He proposed that every small film should have access to at least one small OTT platform and one satellite television channel. He also called for mechanisms similar to those available in some other film industries, including subsidies and structured sales opportunities for smaller productions.
Small producers and directors should have avenues to sell their films directly, he said.
Mehdi argued that the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce should play a key role in creating such a system and provide alternative avenues for films that do not receive adequate theatrical support.
Final Notices to Film Chamber Representatives
Mehdi said he had previously issued legal notices to several representatives of the Telugu Film Chamber, but received no response.
He said notices were initially served on Suresh Babu, Film Chamber vice-presidents Naga Vamsi and Bharat Bhushan, secretary Ashok Kumar, and treasurer Prasanna Kumar.
As there was no response, he said final legal notices have now been issued.
Mehdi warned that if the matter proceeds to court and summons are issued, the concerned individuals would have to appear and respond through the legal process.
Final Legal Notice to Dil Raju
Mehdi also said that producer Dil Raju had earlier been served a legal notice and has now received a final legal notice.
He argued that major industry stakeholders have a responsibility to ensure that smaller films receive a fair opportunity and said the issues faced by O Andala Rakshasi need to be answered.
‘What Can a Small Film Do With Two or Three Shows?’
Mehdi specifically raised concerns over the theatrical release of O Andala Rakshasi.
He alleged that the film did not receive sufficient shows from PVR INOX and said final legal notices had been issued to Ajay Bijli and manager Mahesh.
“When the film was released, it was given only two or three shows in Hyderabad city. How can a small film reach audiences with just two or three shows? How can anyone decide whether the film is good or whether audiences will watch it without even giving the film a proper opportunity?” he asked.
Mehdi said the issue should not be viewed merely as a problem involving his film, but as a larger structural problem affecting small films across the industry.
‘Why Is There No Response Even After Legal Notices?’
Mehdi questioned the continued silence of the people and organisations against whom he has raised allegations.
He said he had been holding press conferences on the issue for nearly a year, yet those he has accused had not come forward publicly to respond.
“For the past year, several press meets have been held. Now legal notices have also been issued. Yet not even one person is coming forward and speaking. Why? Who is behind them? Are those four the only people involved? Who else is there?” he questioned.
Mehdi said the concerned individuals should respond publicly and explain their position so that the facts can be known to the public.
‘They Are Intoxicated by Money and Position’
Mehdi made strong allegations against sections of the industry, claiming that some individuals have become overly confident because of their money, positions and influence.
He alleged that there is a situation where people are not being treated with basic dignity and that some believe legal matters can simply be handled through lawyers and financial settlements.
He described the influence of money, status and power as creating an atmosphere in which some people behave as though they are beyond accountability.
However, Mehdi stressed that his fight is not driven by personal vengeance.
His primary objective, he said, is to establish a system that provides small films with a fair chance to survive and reach audiences.
Complaint Submitted to CM Revanth Reddy
Mehdi said he has also informed Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy about the difficulties faced by small films and about the legal battle he has initiated.
According to him, details of his complaint and the notices were submitted to the Chief Minister’s office and were received by the concerned team.
He expressed hope that a response would come from the Chief Minister’s office soon.
‘Many People Have Already Suffered’
Mehdi said many people in the industry have already suffered because of the existing system.
He said he decided to stand up because he felt that someone needed to take a strong stand against the problems faced by small filmmakers.
“I have also become exhausted. At one point, I even decided that I should not make films anymore because of these circumstances. But justice must be done to the film I made,” he said.
He said he had considered completing the promotion of O Andala Rakshasi and staying away from the film industry altogether.
However, he made it clear that he would not back down when it comes to his film.
‘You Cannot Kill a Film Like This’
Mehdi said his fight would continue until O Andala Rakshasi receives what he considers to be justice.
“You cannot kill a film like this. I have made a good film. That film should at least get an opportunity to reach the audience. As far as this film is concerned, I will not lose. I want justice for O Andala Rakshasi. I will not stop my fight until justice is done,” he said.
‘Media Should Question the Film Industry Bigwigs’
Mehdi also appealed to the media to raise questions about the difficulties faced by small films.
He urged the media to look at the issue not merely as the struggle of one movie, but as a larger systemic issue within the Telugu film industry.
He called upon journalists to question those who have remained silent and ask them to respond to the allegations.
“Even if someone is sitting in the sky, they have to come down and answer,” he said, while thanking media representatives for supporting his fight.
Fight Goes Beyond One Film
Mehdi reiterated that his legal battle is not limited to O Andala Rakshasi.
He said his larger objective is to ensure that small films, new directors, actors and producers do not face similar problems in the future.
Mehdi said he would continue his legal and public fight until a solution is found and justice is done to O Andala Rakshasi.

తెలుగు సినీ పరిశ్రమలో చిన్న సినిమాలకు ఎదురవుతున్న ఇబ్బందులు, నెపోటిజం, మోనోపోలీపై ‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’ నటుడు, దర్శకుడు షిరాజ్ మెహది (Sheraz Mehdi) తీవ్రస్థాయిలో ధ్వజమెత్తారు. తన సినిమాను ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు తీసుకురావడానికి ఎదురైన ఇబ్బందులే తనను న్యాయపోరాటం వైపు నడిపించాయని చెప్పారు. తెలుగు ఫిల్మ్ ఛాంబర్ ప్రతినిధులతో పాటు ప్రముఖ నిర్మాత దిల్ రాజు, PVR INOX ప్రతినిధులకు ఫైనల్ లీగల్ నోటీసులు పంపించినట్లు వెల్లడించారు. ముఖ్యమంత్రికి కూడా ఫిర్మాదు చేసినట్టు తెలిపారు. స్పందన రాకపోతే తదుపరి న్యాయపరమైన చర్యలు తీసుకుంటానని స్పష్టం చేశారు.
తెలుగు పరిశ్రమలో నెపోటిజం, గుత్తాధిపత్యం పెరిగిపోయిందని షిరాజ్ మెహది ఆరోపించారు. కొత్తవారికి, చిన్న సినిమాలకు సరైన అవకాశాలు దక్కడం లేదని ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. ‘‘100 సినిమాలు వస్తే అందులో రెండు, మూడు సినిమాలను మాత్రమే సెలెక్ట్ చేసి.. అవే హిట్ సినిమాలు, పెద్ద బడ్జెట్ సినిమాలు, విజయవంతమైన సినిమాలు అని చూపిస్తున్నారు. మరి మిగిలిన 97 సినిమాల పరిస్థితి ఏంటి? వాటిని ఎవరు పట్టించుకుంటారు?’’ అని ప్రశ్నించారు. కొన్ని సినిమాల చుట్టూనే థియేటర్లు, ప్రచారం, బిజినెస్ అవకాశాలు తిరుగుతున్నాయని, మిగిలిన చిన్న సినిమాలు ప్రేక్షకుల దగ్గరకు వెళ్లే అవకాశమే లేకుండా పోతున్నాయని ఆయన అన్నారు.
చిన్న సినిమాలు మనుగడ సాగించాలంటే ప్రత్యామ్నాయ బిజినెస్ వ్యవస్థను ఏర్పాటు చేయాల్సిన అవసరం ఉందని షిరాజ్ మెహది సూచించారు. ప్రతి సినిమాకు కనీసం ఒక చిన్న OTT ప్లాట్ఫామ్, ఒక శాటిలైట్ ఛానల్ అందుబాటులో ఉండాలని అన్నారు. అలాగే ఇతర భాషల్లో ఉన్న తరహాలో చిన్న సినిమాలకు సబ్సిడీలు, విక్రయ అవకాశాలు కల్పించాలని కోరారు. చిన్న నిర్మాతలు, దర్శకులు తమ చిత్రాలను నేరుగా విక్రయించుకునే మార్గం ఉండాలని అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు. ఈ వ్యవస్థను రూపొందించడంలో తెలుగు ఫిల్మ్ ఛాంబర్ ఆఫ్ కామర్స్ కీలక పాత్ర పోషించాల్సి ఉందని చెప్పారు. ఛాంబర్ చొరవ తీసుకుంటే చిన్న సినిమాలకు ప్రత్యామ్నాయ మార్గాలు అందుబాటులోకి వస్తాయని అన్నారు.
ఫిల్మ్ ఛాంబర్కు ఫైనల్ నోటీసులు
తన డిమాండ్లపై స్పందన లేకపోవడంతో తెలుగు ఫిల్మ్ ఛాంబర్కు చెందిన పలువురు ప్రతినిధులకు లీగల్ నోటీసులు పంపినట్లు షిరాజ్ మెహది వెల్లడించారు. ప్రముఖ నిర్మాత సురేష్ బాబుతో పాటు ఛాంబర్ వైస్ ప్రెసిడెంట్లు నాగవంశీ, భరత్ భూషణ్, సెక్రటరీ అశోక్ కుమార్, ట్రెజరర్ ప్రసన్న కుమార్లకు తొలుత లీగల్ నోటీసులు ఇచ్చామని, స్పందన రాకపోవడంతో తాజాగా ఫైనల్ నోటీసులు పంపించినట్లు తెలిపారు. కేసు దాఖలు చేసి సమన్లు వెళ్లే పరిస్థితి వస్తే సంబంధిత వ్యక్తులు కోర్టుకు వచ్చి సమాధానం చెప్పాల్సి ఉంటుందని చెప్పారు.
దిల్ రాజుకు కూడా ఫైనల్ నోటీసు
ప్రముఖ నిర్మాత దిల్ రాజుకు కూడా తొలుత నోటీసు ఇచ్చామని, తాజాగా ఫైనల్ లీగల్ నోటీసు పంపించామని షిరాజ్ మెహది తెలిపారు. చిన్న సినిమాలకు పరిశ్రమలో సమానమైన అవకాశాలు కల్పించాల్సిన బాధ్యత పెద్దలపై ఉందని, తమ సినిమా ఎదుర్కొన్న సమస్యలకు సమాధానం చెప్పాల్సిన అవసరం ఉందని అన్నారు.
‘PVR INOX ఇచ్చిన రెండు మూడు షోలతో ఏం సరిపోతుంది?’
‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’కు థియేటర్లలో తగినన్ని షోలు ఇవ్వలేదని షిరాజ్ మెహది ఆరోపించారు. PVR INOXకు చెందిన అజయ్ బిజిలీ, మేనేజర్ మహేష్లకు కూడా ఫైనల్ లీగల్ నోటీసులు ఇచ్చినట్లు చెప్పారు. ‘‘సినిమా విడుదలైనప్పుడు హైదరాబాద్ సిటీలో రెండు మూడు షోలు ఇచ్చారు. రెండు మూడు షోలతో ఒక చిన్న సినిమా ప్రేక్షకుల వద్దకు ఎలా వెళ్తుంది? సినిమా బాగుందా? ప్రేక్షకులు చూస్తారా? అనే అవకాశం కూడా ఇవ్వకుండా ఎలా నిర్ణయిస్తారు?’’ అని ప్రశ్నించారు. తన సినిమా విషయంలో మాత్రమే కాకుండా చిన్న సినిమాలన్నింటికీ ఇదే సమస్యగా మారిందని ఆయన అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు.
‘నోటీసులు ఇచ్చినా స్పందన ఎందుకు లేదు?’
గత ఏడాది కాలంగా ఈ అంశంపై పలుమార్లు ప్రెస్మీట్లు నిర్వహిస్తున్నప్పటికీ, తాను ఆరోపిస్తున్న వ్యక్తులు, సంస్థల నుంచి బహిరంగ స్పందన రాకపోవడంపై షిరాజ్ మెహది ప్రశ్నలు సంధించారు. ‘‘గత ఏడాది నుంచి ఇన్ని ప్రెస్మీట్లు జరుగుతున్నాయి. ఇప్పుడు నోటీసులు కూడా వెళ్తున్నాయి. అయినా ఒక్కరు కూడా ముందుకు వచ్చి మాట్లాడటం లేదు. ఎందుకు? వీళ్ల వెనకాల ఎవరున్నారు? ఆ నలుగురే ఉన్నారా? ఇంకా ఎవరున్నారు?’’ అని ఆయన ప్రశ్నించారు. తన ఆరోపణలపై సంబంధిత వ్యక్తులు స్పందించి వాస్తవాలు ప్రజలకు చెప్పాలని కోరారు.
‘డబ్బు, హోదా ఇచ్చిన మత్తులో ఉన్నారు’
పరిశ్రమలో కొందరు డబ్బు, హోదా, పలుకుబడితో తమకు ఎవరూ ఏమీ చేయలేరన్న ధీమాతో వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారని షిరాజ్ మెహది ఆరోపించారు. ‘‘మనిషిని మనిషిలా చూడని పరిస్థితి ఉంది. కోర్టుకు వెళ్తే అడ్వకేట్ మాట్లాడతారు, ఏదో ఒకటి పే చేసి బయటపడతామనే ధోరణిలో ఉన్నారు. డబ్బు, హోదా ఇచ్చిన పవర్తో భూమి కనిపించకుండా ఆకాశంలో ఉన్నట్టుగా వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు’’ అని తీవ్ర వ్యాఖ్యలు చేశారు. అయితే తన పోరాటం వ్యక్తిగత కక్ష కోసం కాదని, చిన్న సినిమాలకు ఒక వ్యవస్థ ఏర్పడాలన్నదే తన ప్రధాన ఉద్దేశమని స్పష్టం చేశారు.
సీఎం రేవంత్ రెడ్డికి కూడా సమాచారం
తెలుగు చిత్ర పరిశ్రమలో చిన్న సినిమాలు ఎదుర్కొంటున్న సమస్యలు, తాను చేపట్టిన న్యాయపరమైన పోరాటం గురించి తెలంగాణ ముఖ్యమంత్రి రేవంత్ రెడ్డికి కూడా సమాచారం పంపినట్లు షిరాజ్ మెహది తెలిపారు. తన ఫిర్యాదు, నోటీసులకు సంబంధించిన వివరాలను సీఎం కార్యాలయానికి పంపించామని, ముఖ్యమంత్రి బృందం వాటిని స్వీకరించిందని చెప్పారు. త్వరలోనే అక్కడి నుంచి స్పందన వచ్చే అవకాశం ఉందని ఆశాభావం వ్యక్తం చేశారు.
‘చాలామంది ఇప్పటికే నష్టపోయారు’
పరిశ్రమలోని ఈ పరిస్థితుల వల్ల ఎంతోమంది తీవ్రంగా నష్టపోయారని షిరాజ్ మెహది ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. ‘‘ఎవరో ఒక్కరు అయినా స్ట్రాంగ్గా నిలబడాలి అనుకుని నేను నిలబడ్డాను. నేను కూడా అలిసిపోయాను. నా వల్ల కూడా కావడం లేదు. ఇలాంటి పరిస్థితుల్లో ఇక సినిమాలు చేయకూడదని కూడా ఒక దశలో నిర్ణయించుకున్నాను. కానీ నేను తీసిన సినిమాకు మాత్రం న్యాయం జరగాలి’’ అని అన్నారు. తన సినిమా ప్రమోషన్ పూర్తి చేసి, ఇక సినిమాలు చేయకుండా పరిశ్రమకు దూరంగా ఉండాలనే ఆలోచన కూడా వచ్చిందని తెలిపారు. అయితే ‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’ విషయంలో మాత్రం వెనక్కి తగ్గబోనని స్పష్టం చేశారు.
‘ఒక సినిమాను ఇలా చంపేయలేరు’
‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’ సినిమాకు న్యాయం జరిగే వరకు తన పోరాటాన్ని కొనసాగిస్తానని షిరాజ్ మెహది తేల్చిచెప్పారు. ‘‘ఒక సినిమాను ఇలా చంపేయలేరు. ఒక మంచి సినిమా తీశాను. ఆ సినిమాకు ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వెళ్లే అవకాశం రావాలి. ఈ సినిమా వరకు అయితే నేను ఓడిపోను. నాకు ‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’కి జస్టిస్ కావాలి. న్యాయం జరిగే వరకు నా పోరాటం ఆపను’’ అని స్పష్టం చేశారు.
‘సినీ పెద్దల్ని మీడియా ప్రశ్నించాలి’
తన పోరాటానికి మీడియా మద్దతు ఇవ్వాలని షిరాజ్ మెహది విజ్ఞప్తి చేశారు. చిన్న సినిమాల సమస్యను కేవలం ఒక సినిమా సమస్యగా కాకుండా, మొత్తం పరిశ్రమలోని వ్యవస్థకు సంబంధించిన అంశంగా చూడాలని కోరారు. ‘‘మీడియా మిత్రులు ఈ విషయాన్ని బలంగా ప్రజల్లోకి తీసుకెళ్లాలి. ఇంతకాలం స్పందించకుండా ఉన్నవారు ముందుకు వచ్చి మాట్లాడేలా ప్రశ్నించాలి. ఎంత ఆకాశంలో ఉన్నా సరే కిందికి రావాలి. మీ సపోర్ట్ ఉంది కాబట్టే ఇంత కష్టమైన పరిస్థితుల్లో కూడా నేను ధైర్యంగా నిలబడగలుగుతున్నాను’’ అని అన్నారు.
తన న్యాయపోరాటం ‘ఓ అందాల రాక్షసి’ సినిమాకు మాత్రమే పరిమితం కాదని, భవిష్యత్లో చిన్న సినిమాలు, కొత్త దర్శకులు, నటులు ఎదుర్కొనే సమస్యలకు ఒక పరిష్కారం రావాలన్నదే తన లక్ష్యమని షిరాజ్ మెహది స్పష్టం చేశారు.
