Pen Movies, Sri Neeladri Productions and RV Studios Join Hands for Mahaveer Karna – Pan India Release on Dec 4th, 2026
The prestigious banners Pen Movies and Sri Neeladri Productions, in association with RV Studios, proudly present Mahaveer Karna, an Epic Hybrid Live-Action Film that promises to take Indian cinema into an extraordinary new visual territory. The film is presented by Jayantilal Gada. At the helm of this ambitious project is blockbuster director Ramesh Varma, the filmmaker known for commercially successful and genre-driven films such as Rakshasudu and Khiladi.
Having explored action, thriller and commercial cinema, Ramesh Varma is now venturing into an entirely new space with the timeless story of Karna from the Mahabharata. With Mahaveer Karna, the filmmaker is experimenting with a hybrid live-action format that brings together the emotional power of live performance and the limitless possibilities of advanced visual effects.
What makes this experiment particularly exciting is the choice of Karna as its emotional centre. Karna’s story is not simply that of a warrior seeking glory; it is the story of a man for whom his word stood above everything else. Born to Kunti but raised away from royal recognition, Karna spends his life confronting rejection, identity and fate, yet remains fiercely loyal to the people and principles he chooses.
His commitment to his promises and his legendary generosity reveal a man who would rather face the consequences of his word than break it. This uncompromising quality makes Karna one of the most fascinating and tragic figures in the Mahabharata, and it is this powerful dimension that gives Mahaveer Karna its emotional foundation.
The teaser makes this defining quality of Karna immediately felt. Beyond the grandeur of warriors, kingdoms, weapons and spectacular imagery, what stays with the viewer is the presence of a man who stands firmly by his promise. The visual treatment suggests that the makers are not approaching Karna merely as a mythological spectacle, but as a deeply human epic about honour, loyalty, friendship, betrayal, destiny and the price of keeping one’s word.
The hybrid live-action approach further amplifies this vision, giving Ramesh Varma the opportunity to experiment with scale, imagery and cinematic world-building in a manner rarely attempted in Indian cinema. The creative and technical team includes Hybrid Creator Ramji Dott as DOP, Prawin Pudi as editor, lyricist Shreemani as dialogue writer and Gyaani as music director.
