The Raja Saab is being liked by audiences across all sections – Maruthi
Emerging as the biggest blockbuster of the Sankranthi festive season in Tollywood, The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas, has crossed ₹201 crore gross worldwide within just four days of release. Families and children are thoroughly enjoying the film. Prabhas’ versatile one-man show, Maruthi’s fresh take in the horror-fantasy genre, and the uncompromising global-scale production by People Media Factory have left audiences mesmerized. In this context, Maruthi shared his thoughts on the film’s success in a recent interview.
– The Raja Saab is receiving love from all sections of the audience. Crossing the ₹200 crore mark even before the Sankranthi holidays begin is truly gratifying. These huge box-office numbers are purely because audiences are enjoying the film. We are confident that the festive holidays will further boost the film’s performance. Since we introduced psychological elements along with fantasy, we expected it might take some time to fully reach the audience. Prabhas himself told me calmly, ‘Relax, darling. We’ve tried something new, it will take time to connect.’ After adding the old-getup scenes recently, I messaged him, and he said everything had fallen perfectly into place.”
– Since it’s the festive season, audiences may have expected a lighter film. Once Boman Irani’s character enters, the film takes a psychological turn. Some viewers may have found it slightly challenging to grasp the concept behind those scenes. In horror films, killing a ghost is easy, there are many ways to do it. But with a pan-India star like Prabhas, I didn’t want to make a simple horror-comedy. That’s why we added fantasy and psychological layers and mounted the film on a big scale. At the second-day press meet, I openly spoke about the response and opinions surrounding the film. In today’s social-media-driven world, there’s no point in hiding anything.
– Now, audiences are genuinely enjoying The Raja Saab. They are personally messaging me saying the film is good. When you watch a film for the first time, you tend to look for expected elements. But on a second viewing, you start understanding the depth behind certain scenes. Making a film like The Raja Saab is not easy. Showing a character slipping into a trance visually, and presenting the subconscious mind on screen, is quite challenging. We worked extremely hard on the reverse scenes in Prabhas’ old getup. For some sequences, Prabhas spent nearly 15 days thinking about how to perform them. He kept telling me, ‘You’ve written such a great scene, darling, I must give my hundred percent.’ Even his subtle smile in the Joker scene carried immense impact.”
– Prabhas fans are like my own brothers. They keep calling and messaging me with appreciation, saying they loved seeing him in colourful songs, dances, and a refreshing presentation. Many people from the industry personally congratulated me as well. Directors like Nag Ashwin and Sandeep Reddy Vanga openly supported The Raja Saab.
– Throughout this entire process, I stayed mentally strong. That’s why I came forward and spoke openly on the second day after release. My main stress before release was ensuring the film came out on time. That’s why I may have looked tired in pre-release interviews. Tell me one film that hasn’t faced trolling on social media, every film does. If four people criticize it, forty others are still going to the theatres and saying they enjoyed it. Permissions for premiere shows and bookings are not under my control. My responsibility was to deliver the film on time, and I focused entirely on that.
– These massive collections prove that audiences have accepted Prabhas in a new genre. Even B and C centres are witnessing houseful shows. From the introduction scene itself, we deliberately kept expectations low for his character. In the climax, we could have staged a routine fight with hundreds of fighters, but then people would call it predictable. I wanted to prove that I can make a good film even with a huge star. I also learned a lot technically, especially with CG work. Though I wrote Prati Roju Pandage in 40 days, I took nearly two months to design certain scenes in The Raja Saab. This film has given me an invaluable experience.
– At the moment, The Raja Saab is all I’m thinking about. If I ever get a chance to direct Chiranjeevi garu, I would feel that my life’s circle is complete, I am a huge fan of his. Audiences are enjoying our film, and I’m peacefully celebrating Sankranthi as well. Wishing everyone a very Happy Sankranthi.

– “రాజా సాబ్” సినిమాకు అన్ని వర్గాల ప్రేక్షకుల ఆదరణ దక్కుతోంది. సంక్రాంతి హాలీడేస్ బిగిన్ కాకముందే ఈ సినిమా 200 కోట్ల రూపాయల మార్క్ టచ్ చేయడం హ్యాపీగా ఉంది. మా సినిమా ప్రేక్షకులకు నచ్చడం వల్లే బాక్సాఫీస్ వద్ద ఇంత హ్యూజ్ నెంబర్స్ క్రియేట్ చేస్తోంది. ఈ సంక్రాంతి హాలీడేస్ లో మరింతగా మా మూవీకి ప్రేక్షకాదరణ దక్కుతుందని ఆశిస్తున్నాం. సైకలాజికల్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ తో కొత్త పాయింట్ చూపించాం కాబట్టి ప్రేక్షకులకు రీచ్ కావడానికి కొంత టైమ్ పడుతుందని ముందే అనుకున్నాం. ప్రభాస్ గారు కూడా ప్రశాంతంగా ఉండు డార్లింగ్, మనం కొత్త ప్రయత్నం చేశాం. కొంత టైమ్ పడుతుంది ఆడియెన్స్ కు చేరడానికి అని చెప్పారు. రీసెంట్ గా ఓల్డ్ గెటప్ సీన్స్ యాడ్ చేశాక ఆయనకు మెసేజ్ చేశా, ఆ సీన్స్ అన్నీ పర్పెక్ట్ గా సెట్ అయ్యాయని చెప్పారు.
– సంక్రాంతి మూడ్ లో ఉంటారు కాబట్టి ప్రేక్షకులు అలాంటి ఒక లైటర్ వేన్ సినిమా ఎక్స్ పెక్ట్ చేసి ఉంటారు. ఈ కథలో బొమన్ ఇరానీ పాత్ర ఎంటరైనప్పటి నుంచి సైకలాజికల్ గా టర్న్ అవుతుంది. ఆ సీన్స్ వెనక మేము అనుకున్న కాన్సెప్ట్ కొందరికి సులువుగా అర్థం కాకపోయి ఉండొచ్చు. హారర్ మూవీస్ లో దెయ్యాన్ని చంపడం ఈజీ. ఎలాగైనా చంపొచ్చు. కానీ ప్రభాస్ గారి లాంటి పాన్ ఇండియా హీరోతో ఒక క్యారెక్టర్ డిజైన్ చేసి సాదా సీదా హారర్ కామెడీ చేయొద్దనే ఇలా ఫాంటసీ, సైకలాజికల్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ యాడ్ చేసి బిగ్ స్కేల్ మూవీ చేశాం. సినిమా రిలీజైన సెకండ్ డే ప్రెస్ మీట్ లో నేను మా మూవీకి ఎలాంటి రెస్పాన్స్ ఉంది, ఎవరు ఎలా అనుకుంటున్నారు అనేది క్లియర్ గా చెప్పా. ఈ సోషల్ మీడియా ట్రెండ్ లో ఎందుకు దాచడం.
– ఇప్పుడు రాజా సాబ్ మూవీని ప్రేక్షకులు బాగా ఎంజాయ్ చేస్తున్నారు. సినిమా బాగుందంటూ వాళ్లే మెసేజ్ లు పంపుతున్నారు. మీరు ఫస్ట్ టైమ్ మూవీ చూసినప్పుడు మీకు కావాల్సిన ఎలిమెంట్స్ వెతుక్కుంటారు. కానీ సెకండ్ టైమ్ మూవీ చూస్తే ఎంత డెప్త్ గా ఆలోచించే ఈ సీన్ చేశారు అనేది అర్థమవుతుంది. రాజా సాబ్ లాంటి సినిమా చేయడం సులువు కాదు. ఒక వ్యక్తి ట్రాన్స్ లోకి వెళ్లాడు అనేది విజువల్ గా చూపించడం కష్టం. అతని సబ్ కాన్షియస్ మైండ్ ను స్క్రీన్ మీద ప్రెజెంట్ చేయాలి. ఈ మూవీలోని ఓల్డ్ గెటప్ లో రివర్స్ సీన్స్ కోసం చాలా కష్టపడ్డాం. కొన్ని సీన్స్ కోసం ప్రభాస్ గారు 15 డేస్ ఎలా చేద్దామని ఆలోచించారు. నువ్వు ఇంత గ్రేట్ సీన్ రాశావు డార్లింగ్, నేనూ నా వందశాతం ఎఫర్ట్స్ పెట్టాలి కదా అని ఆయన అనేవారు. జోకర్ సీన్ లో ఆయన చిన్న స్మైల్ ఇస్తారు. ఆ స్మైల్ తో గ్రేట్ పర్ ఫార్మ్ చేశారు అనిపించింది.
– ప్రభాస్ గారి అభిమానులు నాకు సోదరులు. వారే ఫోన్స్ , మెసేజ్ లు చేస్తూ అభినందిస్తున్నారు. ప్రభాస్ గారిని కలర్ ఫుల్ గా సాంగ్స్, డ్యాన్స్ లతో చూపించారని, కొత్తగా ప్రెజెంట్ చేశారని అప్రిషియేట్ చేస్తున్నారు. ఇండస్ట్రీ నుంచి కూడా చాలా మంది నాకు పర్సనల్ గా విష్ చేశారు. నాగ్ అశ్విన్ గారు, సందీప్ వంగా గారు రాజా సాబ్ కు సపోర్ట్ చేశారు.
– ఈ మొత్తం ప్రాసెస్ లో నేను స్ట్రాంగ్ గా ఉన్నాను. అందుకే సినిమా రిలీజైన రెండో రోజు మీ ముందుకు వచ్చి మాట్లాడాను. నాకు అనుకున్న టైమ్ కు సినిమా రిలీజ్ చేయాలి అనే వర్క్స్ లోనే టెన్షన్ పడుతూ ఉండిపోయా. అందుకే నేను రిలీజ్ కు ముందు ఇచ్చిన ఇంటర్వ్యూస్ లో అలసిపోయినట్లు కనిపించాను. ఏ సినిమా గురించి సోషల్ మీడియాలో ట్రోల్స్ రాలేదో చెప్పండి. ప్రతి సినిమాకు వస్తుంటాయి. నలుగురు చెడుగా మాట్లాడితే నలభై మంది వెళ్లి సినిమా చూస్తున్నారు. సినిమా బాగుంది కదా అని అంటున్నారు. ప్రీమియర్ షోస్ కు అనుమతి, బుకింగ్స్ ఇలాంటివి నా పరిధిలోకి రావు. నేను సినిమాను ఇన్ టైమ్ రిలీజ్ కు రెడీ చేసే పనిలోనే ముగినిపోయాను.
– రాజా సాబ్ సినిమాకు ఇంత భారీ కలెక్షన్స్ వస్తున్నాయంటే ప్రభాస్ గారిని కొత్త జానర్ లో యాక్సెప్ట్ చేసినట్లే కదా. బీ, సీ సెంటర్స్ లో కూడా హౌస్ ఫుల్స్ పడుతున్నాయి. ఈ మూవీలో ప్రభాస్ గారి క్యారెక్టర్ ను లో ఎక్స్ పెక్టేషన్స్ లో ఉంచాలనే ఇంట్రో సీన్ నుంచి ప్రయత్నించాం. క్లైమాక్స్ లో కూడా వందమందిని పెట్టి ఫైట్ చేయించొచ్చు. అలా చేస్తే మళ్లీ రొటీన్ అని అంటారు. నేను ఒక పెద్ద స్టార్ తో కూడా సినిమా బాగా చేయగలను అని ప్రూవ్ చేసుకున్నాను. సీజీ వర్క్స్ విషయంలో కొన్ని నేర్చుకున్నాను. ప్రతిరోజు పండగే సినిమాను 40 రోజుల్లో రాసిన నేను…ఈ చిత్రంలో కొన్ని సీన్స్ కోసం రెండు నెలల టైమ్ తీసుకున్నా. అలా రాజా సాబ్ సినిమా నాకు మంచి ఎక్సిపీరియన్స్ ఇచ్చింది.
– ప్రస్తుతం రాజా సాబ్ సినిమానే నా ఆలోచనల్లో ఉంది. చిరంజీవి గారితో సినిమా చేసే అవకాశం వస్తే నా లైఫ్ సర్కిల్ ఫుల్ అయినట్లు భావిస్తా. ఆయన అభిమానిని నేను. ప్రేక్షకులు మా మూవీని బాగా ఎంజాయ్ చేస్తున్నారు. నేను కూడా ప్రశాంతంగా సంక్రాంతి సెలబ్రేట్ చేసుకుంటున్నా. మీ అందరికీ హ్యాపీ సంక్రాంతి.
